40 Years

These two cuties have been married for 40 years guys! I can't believe it!

They are such a great example of a loving, fun, and steadfast marriage. I'm so happy they are my parents and wish them many more happy years! Seriously they are so fun together. I think every time I visit them they are planning their next trip, usually to Hawaii.

I love hearing them talk about their, albeit very short, courtship. They dated for about 6 weeks before they got engaged. They met on a blind date at Texas Tech. My mom was out of state and my dad was a hometown boy. My dad was late and my mom said she had a zit that felt like a unicorn horn. But clearly it still went well! My dad said he went to visit my mom's family in DC and he said he wanted to walk through those doors for the rest of his life. There is so much love between the families that I sometimes can't believe how blessed I am to be a part of it.

I got to see them briefly on Sunday, their actual anniversary, while I was driving through town. They were at my sister Noelle's house painting a room for their second grandbaby! Seriously, my parents are grandparents now?!

Happy Anniversary to the best parents a girl could ask for!

Bachelorette Weekend

Wow. I know I probably say I'm exhausted after every weekend but this is so much more extreme. I drove down to Charleston from Charlotte on Friday afternoon and was reunited with my sweet Hannah, Shemeh and finally met Sarah, Hannah's MOH and amazing weekend planner. We had an awesome house tucked right by King Street. Boy was this place tucked back there, we weaved through several houses to get to it! But this place was bomb!

We kept it pretty low key while we waited for the rest of the group playing Cads Against Matrimony and having plenty of champagne. After the rest of our crew came in we played some more games and showered her with lingerie and more than enough pairs of panties!

The next day we were all assembled, breakfasted and went straight to Folly Beach. We tanned, chatted, jumped in the waves and walked around until it started to downpour! We probably needed a break from the sun and grab some lunch anyway so it was perfect timing.

We went back and got ready for an amazing dinner and dancing. I did a lot of hair and makeup which I loved! We ate dinner at Prohibition where we had some amazing cocktails and tapas. Then it was time to get our dancing shoes on! We went to Stars, a rooftop bar to start. As we were getting ready to leave I hear a screech of MARISA!? My best friend Heather Lee is sitting there causally in Charleston! We've been so busy talking about Labor Day we forgot to talk about anything else! Talk about a mini reunion!

Then we really got to dancing! We had so much fun and even though we were not too far from our place we still needed to get an Uber for our feet! We had a wild night and I am definitely still in recovery mode, especially after driving for 6 hours. I was so happy to collapse into my comfy bed.

Hope you all had an GREAT weekend!!

I am currently in Charlotte sleeping in my old bed, aka the most comfortable bed in the world! I'm just dropping Kona off with his grandparents and then I'm off!

1. Woohoo!! It's my sweet Hannah's Bachelorette Weekend!! Back to Charleston for us!!

{My Bachelorette 4 years ago!}

2. Guys these temporary tattoos are so cool! They last about 2 weeks using organic fruit dyes.

I'm backing their project because it looks so cool! How fun would it be to have these on a vacation? I think tattoos are so cool but 1. I'm too much of a wuss 2. I don't know what I would want 3. Where would I want this? ughh too many decisions! The Kickstarter ends on Friday August 28 at 9:51am so if you want to back it click here

3. Chris and I started The Jinx this week. The first episode was so gruesome I didn't think I could watch it but by the end I was ready to see how the craziness unfolds! You would think for someone that sees pretty gruesome things regularly that it wouldn't bother me but there is definitely a difference between a medical mistake and murder. Have you guys seen The Jinx? Let me know what you thought!

4. OMG for all you parents taking your kids to school for the first time here is a little something that will give you some morning tears!

OMG how sweet is that!?

5. And finally just because I have somehow still not become sick of this song and Have loved Walk the Moon since forever a movie dance compilation to welcome your weekend!

Yay!! Hope you all have a WONDERFUL WEEKEND!!

The Lady in White

As I mentioned earlier, this weekend I will be celebrating one of my best friends and Bride-to-be in Charleston! I have known Hannah since I first moved to Charlotte in 2004. She was one of my first friends I made in school and has remained a dear and loyal friend ever since. She is actually how I met my husband Chris.

A little back story...(so high school)

I met Hannah because I had a crush on a guy in one of my classes, he invited me to eat lunch with him and his friends so duh, I said yes! Turns out he was actually dating Hannah at the time! Well they didn't last much longer but Hannah and I did! Somehow I tricked her into thinking I was cool and we ate lunch together everyday after that. One day she invited one of her friends from her chemistry class to eat lunch with us. It was that super cute guy from ultimate frisbee I was always too intimidated to talk to. Little did I know that Chris wasn't as great of friends with this group of people (I was brand new to the school after all) and he started to have lunch with us everyday because of me! The rest is pretty much history!

{my first trip to KY started fresh off the plane - no make up- with a sake tasting!}

After we graduated High School I went to UNCW and Hannah went to UK. I went to visit her as often as a poor college student could (twice I think during undergrad) and we would talk long into the night about all kinds of things, mostly boys and friend drama. She exposed me to my love of bourbon and more specifically Bourbon Ales! Can't get enough! She also made me fall in love with horse racing at Keeneland.

{Bourbon tasting at Woodford Reserve}

So much so that I have convinced several other friends to make the trip out there with me!

{my second trip - visiting Four Roses}

She has been such an amazing friend to me that I asked her to stand with me during my wedding as one of my bridesmaids! Luckily she was able to make the trip out and we had a great time. She also got to use her FLUENT German with my Granny. (This made my Granny extremely happy.)
{My rehearsal in Kaua'i}

I'm looking forward to many, many, many, more adventures with her and her husband-to-be Chris!

What's Hap-pinning

As you may have noticed I have been spending a lot of time at weddings this year with more to come! My go-to place for dresses for weddings is BCBG. By far the best place for my body type. It's the first place I think of when I think of weddings, not a shock since my wedding dress was BCBG too!

Here are a few items I have been lusting after for future weddings!

{top row: 1, 2, 3; bottom row: 1, 2, 3, 4}

Oh dangit, speaking of black I have one more!!

Don't know how she slipped through the cracks!

Where is your go-to place for wedding guest dresses? I'd love to expand my horizons!

Join Jenn for the linkup next week too!

The Bachelorette

I'm not leaving you guys behind! Life has been a little nuts around here, Chris and I are trying to plan our lives for the next few months, what with trips, weddings, trying to get home, and a little niece on the way we are booked SOLID through November! And then there are the holidays! Lately I have been tied up in trying to find bridal lingerie! Oohh la la!

I finally found something that won't be too embarrassing to open. Do you guys have any bachelorette traditions or games you play? I'd love to hear your experiences. Most of my bachelorette weekends have been full to the brim with activities and none have them have been even close to the same!

{Me and my bride-to-be on MY bachelorette!}

Wow look at those babies! And holy cow did my teeth look white! All this shopping is getting me super pumped for the weekend and it's only Tuesday!

Please let me know what fun things you guys have done or want to do on bachelorette weekends!

Weekend Update

 I needed a relaxing weekend just to get my life pulled together a bit! Chris and I went out to Revolution for dinner on Friday night because I have been wanting poke for months now! I saw they had it on their menu and I knew I had to go and try it. We decided to split several small plates and they were all great! I was a little disappointed that the poke was filled with a salad and had a very strong vinegar dressing on it rather than a traditional sesame and tuna taste, thankfully the rest of our plates more than made up for it! The grilled octopus salad was so good, the pork and shrimp rolls were much better then I expected them to be, they had so much flavor and they mixed so nicely. And the best were the mussels! Plus I found out that Chris had never had mussels before! I have exposed Mr. Chris to so many foods in our ten years together I still forget there are some things he hasn't had before! They paced out our plates which at first I wanted all of our food at once but after digesting and talking and drinking our fabulous cocktails we were ready for our second round of plates and weren't overly full and were able to eat everything! We ended the night with a nightcap at Criterion.

We got to sleep in finally! Like really sleep in, it was perfect. We got some chores done and I went to get my bridesmaid dress altered. Afterwards Chris and I went to the pool and there was no one there!! So great.

Does anyone else get giant hair after being in or around salt water?

We made a great salad for dinner, just a perfect day with Chris. I love having a relaxing day with just him and me.

On Sunday we went our own ways, Chris to his brothers house and me to the sorority house to help out with recruitment. I always want to talk about it or snapchat it but I can't!! But I can say they are doing great! Since Chris and I only have one car I had to take an Uber back home and I got the most awesome adorable nerdy driver! Five stars.

I came home and ran the dishwasher which for some reason terrifies Kona. He runs away, he shivers, he pants and hides in the bathroom. Does anyone else have this issue with their dog? We don't know what to do for him, nothing helps him! I'm not sure if a thundershirt will help him or not. Has anyone tried them before? Let us know so we can run our dishwasher without traumatizing our dog! I'm pretty sure the dishwasher is why he went into cat mode once and got caught in the blinds too. Any suggestions are welcome!

Hope you all had a great weekend too!

Weekend Update

Another crazy weekend! We started by enjoying Chris' freshly brewed bitters in some drinks and dinner at our friends house. We got to sleep in a little before heading over to the pool for a pre-wedding soak in the sun! The wedding was at 4 so we didn't stay out for very long. Our friends James and Jillian came over to get ready. Jillian accidentally left her makeup in Canada last weekend! Thankfully she has a friend that is way too obsessed with makeup so she had plenty to borrow and take for herself! ;)

The wedding was so lovely and full of friends and family! So happy for Joe and Robin!

Look at that handmade brooch bouquet! Only one more wedding this year! We had a blast dancing the night away with our friends and walking all over downtown Raleigh.

We had to sleep in on Sunday since we stayed up way too late dancing! But we had to get up eventually since we've had ribs in our fridge just itching to be smoked! We smoked them for about 9 hours all while we were at the pool. Seriously a perfect lazy Sunday! We got a fly in our house while we were smoking and it made Kona very skiddish. He still hasn't gotten over being stung by the bees. I'm a little worried we may have to get him a thundershirt. I don't mind though because he gets very snuggly when he gets nervous.

We have a pretty busy week ahead with no sleeping in allowed! Hope you all had a great weekend!

Why did it take me so long to get back in the swing of things? Seriously, I only missed one day of work and it threw me off so much! Thankfully there is no traveling...

1. For our next wedding this weekend! The only thing is I'm still not sure what I want to wear!

{via yesterdays post!}

2. To make this week go by a little faster I've been listening to a new podcast for me called Criminal. It's all about different kinds of crimes and the people involved. It was cool because the very first one was about someone from Chapel Hill!

3. The one really great thing about this week is that Mr. Chris was at home so I got some pretty choice meals when I got home. He will be finishing up his bitters class today so maybe we'll have some yummy pre-wedding cocktails!

4. On our trip I carried a backpack and now I am OBSESSED with backpacks. I'm seriously ready to exchange my heavy purse for a cute backpack. Let the shopping commence!

This was my carry on, obviously not an everyday thing but if I find a super cute one then I'll be ready to not be lopsided anymore. This was a great carry on since I had so much room and it was so easy to carry! You can't beat hands free! (My only issue with this bag is I wanted it because it has the skateboard straps and they can't hold up my longboard! However a regular board I think would be fine.)

5. Ugh I'm just so ready for the weekend we're only having High Four for Friday! Friday Sangria here I come! (Maybe Saturday Sangria pre-wedding pool party!)

6. Ok I found something that I wanted to write about! I love this 'interview'.

Mostly because American Ultra looks awesome!

I know I'm totally going against being a girly blogger but seriously, trailers get me every time!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!

We're back!

Traveling so much really takes it out of me! Yeesh! I'm starting to feel like we're back to normal and catch you up on our travels!

We left Raleigh on Saturday morning with our friends James and Jillian who were our travel companions throughout the trip. Even though we left later than we (I) wanted and went down the wrong exit we made it to the airport on time. I am so anxious about getting to the airport and through security, is anyone else like that? The second I get to the gate I feel better.

We got to Rochester and then drove to Ottawa from there! Thankfully James and Jillian are awesome co-pilots so the boys chatted in front while the girls plotted for Jillian's little boy and played Phase 10.  We were greeted by the most ridiculous storm, showing only on the Canadian side, on the US however it was beautiful and sunny! After we passed through the international border we saw the brightest most vivid rainbow I have ever seen in my life! The pictures just can't do it justice!

{Sunny USA | Terrifying cloud land Canada!}

{ugh you can't see all of ROY G BIV but in person you could see them all!}

The time passed so quickly, the only way we realized time was passing was by our grumbling bellies! We finally got to our destination around 9 and were ready to meet up with the groom for some drinks and poutine!

It was a GORGEOUS day on Saturday so we walked all around Ottawa, saw all the parks, the changing of the guards, the locks, a mid-day parade, Byward Market,  and even a BBQ competition! We headed back after so much walking for a little siesta and got ready for the big night!

The wedding was gorgeous! We even had a little rendition of Oh Canada! playing in the background thanks to the nearby Parliament! After the ceremony we walked over to the restaurant where we were treated to oysters, champagne, and other small canapes. Before dinner there were many toasts and a tradition of instead of clinking glasses to make the bride and groom kiss we had to sing a song with the word 'love' in it. We learned a TON of French love songs through this tradition! :)

{I'm going full on Farrah in this pic! ;)}

After that we danced the night away and were treated to some late night poutine!

We had to leave the next morning to make our flight from Rochester and made it back to North Carolina in the late night but we made it and were so happy we got to be a part of our friends wedding!

Hope you all had a great weekend too and a great week so far! Happy Friday eve!
