Weekend Update

What a great weekend! Even though I had a crazy, hectic, long long day on Friday it was amazing to hear that now all my friends can get married! I hope people are learning acceptance instead of staking their fear and hate. It was a great day for America! I celebrated with Heather Lee and a shared bottle of sangria at City Kitchen. We caught up and just relaxed after our very long days!

On Saturday since it was pretty rainy so we hit up the mall and watched Inside Out. That movie is so sweet! I loved the short before the movie, since Chris and I got married in Hawaii it resonated with me. The movie was so sweet, it really makes you think about how you feel and how complex those feelings are and the memories that make you who you are. Definitely recommend to all ages. But we both totally cried a couple times so be prepared!

Afterwards we met one of Heather Lee's friends from LA for a drink and dinner at Jose and Sons. I had a Drug Mule, which was their version of a Moscow Mule and fish tacos and they both were amazing! It was so cool to see friends from the west coast on the east coast even though now she works in Cleveland for the Browns! What a change we have all made in the past few years!

On Saturday we were blessed with gorgeous weather and spent the whole day at the pool. Chris came home from his bachelor party and joined us for a delicious dinner at Kipos. After we finished a delicious dinner Heather Lee went home and we got ourselves ready for the week ahead.

Hope you all had great weekends and a happy Monday!

It's Friday!

I think I deserve a serious drink after this week guys, it's been the worst! Luckily I have a great weekend to look forward to can get me through Friday! Also, sorry this will be YouTube heavy!

1. I just discovered the podcast Mortified and it is by far my favorite thing I have even listened to! It's all embarrassing stories from journals and letters written when the authors were teenagers and are reading it years later. If you ever kept a journal in high school or middle school and read it later, it's mortifying to read to yourself let alone a group of people!

2. My love of Amy Poehler is undying as you know and her reuniting with Seth Meyers for a REALLY?! segment is life.

Here here! I'm also pretty miffed they don't show the Paralympics on regular TV. Please look up the Paralympic on YouTube because these are some seriously amazing athletes doing something most able bodied people wouldn't be able to accomplish.

3. If you need a laugh for some reason I think this whole interaction is hilarious. Maybe because it's totally something that would happen to me and I get so anxious about meeting people...

4. Chris and I finished this season of Game of Thrones and I got a little spoiler but I still didn't see it coming!! Have you guys watched it!? Now on to OITNB!!

5. My BFF is coming this weekend and I'm so pumped since I haven't seen her since we moved! AND I actually got some work done yesterday! more stuff organized AND a workout! Looks like Owning It can make you turn it around! :)

Here's to the freakin weekend people!

Owning It

Thanks to Ms. Christina I will be confessing my sins and unpacking the baggage that is weighing me down. Speaking of...

This unpacking nonsense is killing me, I want it done but I just don't want to do it! Plus, could I get a free weekend to get stuff done? Chris and I have been booked solid since the beginning of the month until mid-July!

{we don't actually look like this now but you get the idea!}

This whole trying to get in better shape is so much harder on your own! Plus my friends keep asking me to make them desserts! What kind of baker would I be if I didn't sample them!?

OMG Chris and I have been together for TEN YEARS! We'll be married for four in July and we're trying to figure out what we want to get ourselves! Last year we got our boards, this year we want to go adventurous again, possibly a new 2-person tent as our 10 person tent is, you know, just a little big for the 2 of us. This tent has been used so many times! It ventured through K-Ville, Peru, the Appalachian Mountains, the beach, so many places she's been!

Haha this is the earliest picture I can find of us! This is before his surgery which peaked his interest in dentistry. But he hid those braces through silly faces and closed mouth smiles for a YEAR!

Finally, I confess I just can't wait for the weekend! This has been an insane week at work and I'm ready for the week to be over!

Link up with Christina the last Thursday of the month to Own It too!

Workout Wednesday: Arms

This week I want to work on my arms and I thought this kettlebell workout looked like it could get my whole body moving. I did well with my last workout but since I haven't run in so long my legs got pretty sore so I'd like to give them a rest.

{original pin here}

I think arms are something a lot of women are self-conscious about, me included. Always striving for that 'skinny arm' in pictures right? Please tell me I'm not the only one! 🙈

Is anyone following along or have their own goals for the summer? With writing this weekly I feel more responsible for my choices and more conscious of what I eat. I already feel better even if I don't have the immediate results I would want, but my self confidence is up, I feel better and I am ready to get back to the gym!

Do you guys have a workout plan you follow? What is your favorite hot weather workout? Let me know in the comments!

Good luck!

Fish Tacos

As promised from here I am finally writing out the recipe for our fish tacos! These are so easy and of course you can change out or replace anything to make it your own.

Start with a fresh tortilla, Chris and I like these a lot since you fry them up yourself it makes them more tasty than other pre-made tortillas. If you have time, definitely make these because they are awesome!

Then you make your fish, I like to take the easy way and just buy any kind of lightly breaded fish and stick it in the oven.

While the fish is cooking make your pico. Just tomatoes, cilantro and white onion. Also make your ranch dressing, we like to make it with the packets because it tastes so much better but you can also make your own. You can also make some gauc to go on the side or corn salsa!

After the fish is done, assemble! I have a set rotation that I don't stray from: tortilla, fish, pico, broccoli slaw and topped with ranch.

This is so yummy and easy. I just love fish tacos!

Lightly breaded fish
Approx 1 cup diced tomatoes
Approx 1 cup chopped white onion
Approx 1/4 cup cilantro
Pre made broccoli slaw
Ranch dressing

Preheat oven as directed on fish, usually 450 and bake fish.
While the fish bakes chop tomatoes, onion and cilantro and combine to make your pico de gallo. Wash broccoli slaw. Once the fish is done assemble your taco and enjoy!

Weekend Update

What a weekend! I hope you all had great weather because we did and we tried to enjoy every minute we could stand of it!

On Friday Chris had a workshop in Greensboro and the bachelor party left from there to enjoy a weekend of hijinks! I got to come home a little early so I prepped our dinner before Noelle and Jackson came. We had a nice night of catching up, eating a bunch of food and staying up maybe a little too late.

On Saturday we went back to Joe Van Gogh for breakfast and they were really sweet and gave Jackson a cup of chocolate milk that jokingly said 'double espresso'. Jack was still wide awake so we went over to the park to work out some energy. It sapped Noelle and I pretty quickly since it was so hot and it worked on Jack too because him and Noelle took a nap pretty quickly after we got home. Then the party started! We packed up and went to the pool. My friend Jillian came over and we enjoyed some nice girly time at the pool. My friend Ellen came over for dinner to round out all the girls! We had such a fun night of catching up and being able to just be with the girls plus Jackson!

After some breakfast and Curious George we headed to the mall while Jack napped in his stroller. After lunch they headed back home and I tried to finish up cleaning the house before Chris got back. Chris caught me up on his wild weekend and we relaxed for the rest of the night with some leftovers and Game of Thrones.

Kona was thrilled his dad was back!

I am so exhausted I'm about ready for another weekend! Hope you all had a great one too! And a Happy Father's Day! I wish I could have been in Hawaii celebrating with my dad!

Happy Friday!

Glad the week is over so I enjoy what will hopefully be a sunny weekend! :)

1. It was my dad's birthday yesterday, my mom said he did the hula and ate lots of delicious food! As you can see!

So jealous over here!

2. Trying to keep up with working out regularly as you can see from this post. So far so good. Chris and I are working really hard and he is trying to not fall into the dadbod territory. Of course there is nothing wrong with a dadbod but Chris and I want to set our sights a little higher.

3. Chris and I have finally started this past seasons Game of Thrones! We like to let the season play out and then watch them all night by night. I find it easier to keep up with all the characters! Some how I haven't been spoiled! Fingers crossed I make it!

4.  OMG why is this so cute?! With all the has been going on in Charleston and China I think we all just need a little cute.

5. Speaking of a little cute...Noelle and little Jackson are coming to stay with me while Chris hosts a bachelor party for one of his co-residents. I'm so excited to see that little ginger snap!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

In trying to still get our lives together I spent yesterday afternoon picking up my closet. Yes Chris' parents stayed in our room while I was gone and yes I cleaned up in that five-year-old way of just shoving everything in a closet. That happened. Now I have to actually clean it up and try to get organized before we move again! ;)

I try to keep myself pretty entertained while I'm doing a chore I don't love because otherwise it might never get done. I was searching for something to watch on Hulu and came across Younger. I had seen ads for it on Hulu and other places and to my surprise it's on TVLand? It's really cute!

It's about a 40ish year old mom, Liza, who is in the midst of a divorce and losing her house while her daughter is studying in Mumbai. While she's going through this crisis she realizes she will need to reenter the workforce only to find out that an 18 year hiatus does not make her a top candidate for the publishing world. While drowning her sorrows with her best friend, Maggie a younger man hits on her and asks her out on a date. This sparks the idea that Liza can pretend to be roughly 26 and lands a job the next day. {it's a TV show of course things aren't realistic!} She befriends a fellow 20-something, Kelsey, as they navigate the world of publishing, dating and living in NYC as 20 year olds.

This show is ridiculous and adorable. I've really liked the few episodes I've seen. Plus Sutton Foster and Hilary Duff? Enough said!

Have you guys watched this show? You can watch it online here if you don't have TVLand or Hulu.

Workout Wednesday

I might have to do these bi-weekly so I can give the workout a proper shot but we'll see!

I've always been a little intimidated by this item at the gym:

Like what even is this? I mean I know it's an ab bench but I've always just spared myself the embarrassment of trying to adjust it and using it wrong at the gym because I've definitely done that before! So embarrassing, I mean I wasn't doing this but you know, just as embarrassing.

Since our gym is much more private I figured I'd give it a shot!

So I'm going to try this pin. 3 sets with 15-25 reps with a mile in between. Like I said, I'm going to TRY to do this. We shall see how this actually goes...

{So it's actually a weight bench, just goes to show how little I know about these things! I ended up doing this workout on the ground and with a work out ball and it was a great workout!}

Good luck everyone!

Changing It Up

So remember when I posted about how Mr. Chris and I were wanting to utilize our little gym? Well we're going to have to kick it into high gear because we went and worked out for a bit and then I saw they had a doctors scale. Of course I made the mistake of checking to see just how much I've gained. It was not pleasing to the eye! But sometimes you need the truth to smack you in the head. I knew I had gained some weight and definitely lost some muscle so now I'm ready to get back into my old fighting form.

I've never been a skinny girl, I keep a pretty athletic build so it's always been more about how I look and feel and how my clothes fit rather than what's on the scale. Right now though it's all about getting back to the healthy shape I was before!

So from now on I'm think of switching it up to Workout Wednesday's rather than Wish List Wednesday's because my main wish right now is to feel better in my body!

What workouts do you guys do? What motivates you guys to go to the gym? There's like a million pins on working out! Do you guys do any of them? Let me know and I'll try them out!

Weekend Update

Oh man Chris and I had great weekends! I had a girls weekend with my friend Alison to celebrate her birthday and upcoming move to California along with some of our other girl friends. Some of whom I recently found out are pregnant! Now I'll be welcoming a baby a month starting in August until January 2016! So since everyone is pregnant and not everyone knows there are very few pictures of ladies! ;) {Alison and I are baby free so don't get excited!}

We had a great time at the lake just enjoying each others company floating around and enjoying adult beverages for those us us not carrying children. Having a ton of non-stop talk time is just the best, especially when you haven't seen each other in such a long time.

I'll miss this face so much! But Chris and I will definitely be ready for another Spring Break in California so we can see them!!

{this double decker dock is the!}

{sweet Chance}

I came back home just in time to bring Chris breakfast and to see my 2 boys on their morning walk. Chris clearly had a great time with the boys while I was gone because there was drink paraphernalia everywhere! He met almost all our neighbors since I took the car had so much fun it was a good thing our guest room was set up because they had to have a sleepover!

We prepped for some friends to come over for dinner and a puppy date only to find out they are pregnant too! The dogs got along great and since my phone was rocking Pandora for us I don't have any pics of the pups! :( But they had a great time and we all stuffed our bellies so full that I promptly passed out after they left!

Hope you all had a great weekend too!

Five on Friday!

1. OITNB is back on today!! I'm super jealous of anyone that got to stay home and binge all those amazing episodes! Ummm Yeah it actually came on a day early!! Has anyone started it yet? I didn't because...

2. We had some friends over last night to thank them again for helping us move. We had guac, fish tacos and a veggie pad thai, peanut butter cookies and chocolate ice cream. Plus that means that we got the downstairs together enough to host people!! Recipes to come!

3. This gif series is giving me life it's so funny!

4. I have some serious envy for my parents right now, they are in Hawaii enjoying the beautiful weather and scenery with one of my dads old fraternity brothers, their dear friends.

David and mom are seriously amazing painters!

5. Speaking of dear friends...I get to go see this pretty lady this weekend before she leaves for the west coast at the end of the month! She was one of my dear dear friends in Baltimore and I miss her so much and I'll miss her even more that she'll be so far away! :(

{on our infamous nacho tour!}

Hope you all had a great week and if you don't have beautiful weather you can at least binge OTINB!! ;)

Book Club: Orphan Train by: Christina Baker Kline

Orphan Train is a fantastic book about two orphans, one, Molly, from 2011 and the other, Vivian, from 1928. These two meet while Molly is serving community service after being caught trying to steal a book from her local library. She goes to serve community service for Vivian, who is now about 90 years old clean out her attic. As they clean Molly learns more than she would have thought.

Molly is 17 and is still trying to find herself which is hard when you move around in foster care several times a year with foster parents that are mean, sometimes abusive and have little empathy for her situation. She finds herself becoming more of herself as she learns more about Vivan's life going through her trunks that hold her lifetime of turbulence and how she got to be here.

Vivian came to America when she was 7 years old from Ireland. Shortly after her arrival in New York her family's apartment catches fire and she is the lone survivor. She is sent on an orphan train across the country by The Children's Aid Society to see if there is someone out there who is willing to adopt her. She goes through several families and finally settles in Minnesota with a kind family where she stays until she is about 19. Her life takes quite a turn and the book just gets better from there!

I really loved this book, it will definitely touch your heart. I loved the little bits of history that were sprinkled in there. Orphan trains were a real thing and it's mind boggling to think where some of those children started and where they ended up.

I actually almost bought this book when I bought Girl on the Train but the story about the young girl threw me off. I'm so glad it came up through book club because I really loved it and it has turned me on to maybe buy a couple more books about that time period.

Do you guys have a specific time period you like to read about? Or do you go through phases of reading one certain thing and then move on to something else? One of the girl in my book club pretty much goes purely on what Amazon suggests to her so we'll get a lot of one subject for a couple months and then we slowly get to another subject as Amazon learn her tastes!

Wish List Wednesday: Athleta

So since moving Chris and I have been pretty lazy with our workout routines and we're hoping to ramp that back up now that we are mostly unpacked. With that comes the need for motivation and I get more excited to go to the gym if I'm looking cute! So here is a round up of a few things I have been pining after from Athleta. I love them because their stuff is definitely worth it! Nothing is outrageously priced and I've had items for at least 3-4 years so far and nothing is looking too worn yet.

{Row One: 1, 2, 3, 4; Row Two: 1, 2, 3, 4; Row Three: 1, 2, 3, 4; Row Four: 1, 2, 3, 4; }

Have you guys ever gotten anything from Athleta? I love it! I go back probably way too much!

Book Club: Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

If it isn't totally clear I really love Liane Moriarty's books! This is the second one I've read and I have another one in my queue. Big Little Lies starts off a little different from the ones I have read in the past. It starts off with someone who isn't actually a regular member of the plot and it starts with a murder.  We jump back to the past and meet Madeline, a feisty mom whose youngest daughter goes to preschool with her ex-husbands daughter. Celeste, a beautiful flustered mom of twins (also in the same preschool) with a gorgeous husband and life to go with it. Finally Jane, new to town single mom to Ziggy who just so happens to be in the same preschool class.

This story we intense for me. I loved the dynamic of the characters and how real the story lines could be, but of course there is a little bit of fantasticality that lends itself to the book. All of their stories converge on the way to preschool orientation where Madeline stops to confront a driving texter and end of twisting her ankle in the middle of the road, Jane witnesses the fall and helps her back to her car and takes all the children to preschool. Madeline insists Jane join her and Celeste for brunch as a thank you. Once they go back to pick up their children they learn that one of the children has been accused of bullying and the blame is put on the new Ziggy, Jane's son.

There is so much to say about this one! Ms. Moriarty fills this book with betrayals, secrets, fights, among all characters, parents, spouses, children, moms and full on clique wars. I realize that this sounds like such an immature book but I really loved it, I felt connected to the characters and wanted to know more about them. I loved the little snippets you learned before and after each chapter as parents were being interviewed about the murder we hear about at the very beginning of the book. I was so touched by one of the characters I cried for the complete last 100 pages. This book isn't too complex which is what would make it a great beach or pool read, but I do think it raises some interesting subjects that would be great to discuss in a book club if they can handle slightly over the top characters and situations. All in all I loved it and will definitely be reading What Alice Forgot!

Have you guys read any of her other books?

p.s. Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman in a miniseries?! Yes PLEASE!

Weekend Update

Chris and I had a very nice weekend. We started off on Friday with Chris hanging out with his brother and me with my sister-in-law. Several girls in our book club have read 'As You Wish' and wanted to watch The Princess Bride so we had a little screening at our girlfriends house who has an awesome screening room. So the girls watched a movie and the guys played video games! It was a great night we went totally old school with pjs, pizza, wine instead of soda, candy, and of course gossip about boys. It was so fun to catch up with them outside of book club!

The next day Chris and I headed over to Greensboro to check out a practice he might be able to take over once he graduates. Chris and I have only been to Greensboro for basketball games so we really needed to see what it was like outside of the NCAA. Before we left we stopped at Joe Van Gogh since I have no coffee left and definitely need it in the morning! The place was super adorable, great coffee and pastries, they have a great patio so even the little Kon could come and socialize outside.

It was a great start to a great weekend. We dropped Kona off at one of our friends houses and we were off. We started out by driving around the downtown area and expanding out. The downtown is really cute and seemed to have a fair amount to offer. We spent most of the day just checking out neighborhoods and driving around. We got lunch at Crafted: The Art of the Taco and it was awesome! Of course I LOVE tacos so I loved it, but it legitimately so good! I got the Fedora tacos with sweet potato chips and Chris got the Big Truck and I think the Fixie with chips and queso. They were amazing and we were stuffed probably into dinner.

We spent the rest of the day driving around, looking at the practice and just checking out the 'burbs. We went to Undercurrents for dinner where we both got the specials. After that we were planning on meeting with one of my friends but downtown was so packed after the baseball game, a concert and what was probably an undie run we decided to get a drink at the bar in our hotel.

Our hotel was awesome! We stayed at the Proximity which is the first commercial hotel to be LEED Platinum. Coming from an architecture standpoint that is HUGE. This basically means the hotel is as Green as you can get on the spectrum of being USGBC Certified. But in their words 'conservation doesn't mean deprivation.' Chris and I stayed in one of the corner rooms and it was so cool.

I loved all the light we got, the tall ceilings, how it all looked like we were in an old warehouse but completely regenerated into a hotel. Also out bartender was awesome and he gave us a rundown of all that was around us as well as a little tour of the drink menu.

The next day we had brunch at the adjoining Print Works Bistro enjoying the beautiful day and spoiling ourselves with creme filled beignets.

We also split a Croque Madame but that isn't nearly as pretty. (and we definitely didn't finish these!) I'd definitely go back and stay at the Proximity just for the convenience to Print Works.

After our bellies were probably over-stuffed we went back to pick up the Kon and continue adventures in unpacking. I realize it looks like all the did was eat but we saw A LOT and have a lot to think about for our future. Ahhh!! Adulting is getting real!

Five on Friday

Good night, I feel like this week has just been nuts, we're unpacking, but also packing again for another trip, trying to figure out the rest of our summer, work was crazy but we made it!!

1. Chris and I are checking out Greensboro this weekend. This may be where our next move is so let me know if there's any places or neighborhoods we need to check out in the comments! (I know, another move already?!)

2. Getting old school over here. I finally watched Jaclyn's April Favorites and at the very end she mentioned this song by Relient K. I used to be obsessed with this band. I think the last album I listened to was their 2004 Mmhmm. All songs. memorized. One of the songs came on a few weeks ago on my sweet 90's Pandora station and it really took me back. So high school. SO many feels. I think I might have to check out the FOUR albums that have come out since I left off! Need a long listen?

3. I'm really excited about my Father's Day presents after pulling together my gift guide. I already gave my dad his Father's Day present since I won't see him, but his birthday is actually before Father's Day this year so I have a couple ideas looming for his birthday.

4. After getting Mr. Chris some sunnies for his birthday I've been on the hunt for some myself! I have such a round head that I like to get men's sunglasses to balance it out! What do you think?

{top row: 1, 2, 3; middle row: 1, 2, 3; bottom row: 1, 2, 3}

5. This little guy has been my savior for the past few weeks! With the humidity, rain and general greasiness that my hair has I've needed an extra boost to go the extra day without a hair washing. I NEED to get the baby version not only because it's adorable but because this stuff saves everyone else from witnessing a my hair be a hot mess. Seriously, so far favorite dry shampoo ever. Plus it looks like I have barely used it since I got it almost a year ago and I've used it A LOT! Actually I might just save a step and get this guy instead!

Hope you all have a great weekend and don't forget to leave me things to do in Greensboro!

Fathers Day Gift Guide

So guys are probably the hardest for me to buy for. Even the man I've known the longest is still hard to find presents for. I've come up with a little list of things I think the men and dads in my life would like. (No generic ties or tools here!) Hopefully this gives you some ideas for the dads in your life! And just FYI Chris is still just a dog dad!

Chris and I are obsessed with our Freakers, it's always a sad day when we forget them.

Chris has a couple flasks but I think a mongrammed one would be really nice.

A really nice watch can pull a mans outfit together and you can find them at many price ranges.

The men in my life love a good drink and amaretto sours are a favorite. I've heard these cherries are the best. Also, this wine case is so cute. Add a couple of his and her bottles of wine and you've got a party!

Sunnies are great for anyone, my dad has some badass aviators and Chris loves his clubmasters.

It was just Chris' birthday last week and he hasn't stopped using his jaybirds. They are legit,  the best headphones I've tried, plus I love the bluetooth!

Chris and Jeremy have both been wanting GoPros and I think it would be really cool to wear them while they slolam and wakeboard with the harness

We love music on the go and I think this little speaker puts out great sound.

Chris loves this little flashlight, he's given it to multiple people.

I love this portfolio, it's professional and just gorgeous! Plus the monogram adds a nice touch.

Ron Swanson/Nick Offerman, just a man's man, even I want to read this!

A classic suit and a hybrid suit will be clutch for summers on the lake and in the pool.

I really want a onesie so why not a boys too?

We love outdoor games and we'd love to add bocce to our mix.

There are a ton of options at Man Crates, I think my dad would really like this Caffeine Fiend Crate, Chris would love the Whiskey Connoisseur Crate, Jeremy would love the Everest Grill Crate and I think everyone needs the Road Warrior Crate. The satisfaction of opening it with the crowbar would fulfill many manly desires. You can find a crate that best fits your man here

To round out our summer gifts our men could all use a waterproof bag, wakeboard PFD, wake gloves and a travel bag. Can you tell I'm ready for another lake weekend? I want all this stuff for myself too!

As always a gift from the heart is always the best. My list incorporates things they like to do. Think about what your dad really likes and tailor a gift around that. There is always something to make them feel special and loved!

Good Luck shopping for all those men in your lives! Don't forget Father's Day is Sunday, June 21!

I'm Still Here!

Thanks for being so patient! We are officially moved in!!

I have to say we left our old place a lot better than how we got it. I really want to vent but also I don't care enough to put it out in the universe. If you're moving to Chapel Hill let me know so I can tell you what landlord you should avoid! ;)

Chris and I are still super busy unpacking and filling this place with all our stuff! Oh boy how much stuff we have! I think we'll be going through it all again and making one more trip to Goodwill.

 Chris Couldn't wait to start moving in!

{Guest Bed}
Of course we have bathrooms too but they aren't nearly as interesting! I keep wondering what we are going to do with that little nook in the Guest bedroom. Time will tell!

As usual I still want to get some more furniture pieces since our storage is a little different here but I'm overall excited to make this place our temporary home!
