Five on Friday

The packing is happening!! This weeks has been so nuts I'm glad it's over but also a little tentative about the long weekend! That means more packing!! Wish us luck!

1. The biggest and best part of this week is that Chris came back home!! He was in San Francisco for almost two weeks and I missed him so much!

2. Ummm the Bad Blood music video came out and it's awesome?! I thought it would be one of those like 15 minute music videos with a story like Telephone or Thriller. I really wish it was a long story but I still liked it. So badass.

Plus she featured Meredith Grey and Olivia Benson. Awesome.

3. The Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale is going on now and I'm a little heartbroken I haven't been able to do a round up for you guys! But there are plenty of other blogs that have it covered!

4. I have another video I think is so sweet. Have you guys seen the 100 years of Beauty: Aging? It's so sweet and it really makes you think about you and your partner. Chris and I met so young and just looking through our wedding album we look so young! It's already happening!

5. I am pumped for a long weekend and most of all moving next weekend!!!! It's coming up so fast! I'm so excited! If we get enough done in the next couple days we're going to try to head up to the lake for some family time!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Weekend Update

Just wanted to throw an FYI out there that posting may be a bit piecemeal for the next few weeks since I will be packing to move to our new place!! I am slowly but steadily getting boxes together for the big move and I'm starting to get really excited but also a little sad since we made this little apartment our place. The girl who used to live in our apartment stopped by to pick up some packages and she was shocked at how different it looked and how much she liked the changes! It was a lot of work but we made it ours!

We've made some minor changes as you can see here. But looking at them we've made more since then! It's looks so different without our Bison!

My mom came to help me this weekend and we got a TON of work done! It's a little sad to see it all being taken down! We went out to City Kitchen on Friday and we had so much fun sitting out on the patio enjoying the Spring Sangria and catching up. We got to work on Saturday packing and finding more supplies. After a long day we enjoyed getting ready and going out to Bida Manda where we enjoyed a delicious dinner. We packed and packed and packed on Sunday and were rightfully exhausted!

I hope you all had a great weekend and got to enjoy the beautiful weather because I only saw it from inside! :(

Five on Friday!

It's time for the top Five of Friday!!

1. OMG my sister sent me this video of my nephew and I was just dying laughing! It made my night!

2. I went and saw Age of Adeline last night with some girlfriends but first we went to G2B and it was awesome! We got several small plates instead of a full size meal and it was so good and we even were given an extra side to try and it really completed the meal. Age of Adeline was really good, such a girly movie and a little unrealistic but it was still really good!

3. My mom is coming to stay with me this weekend to help me pack. I've been so busy this week I haven't packed nearly as much as I thought I would! Thankfully she is bringing some boxes too, hopefully we'll get a lot of work done!

4. I also got my passport renewed yesterday! We have a wedding in Canada in August and my passport expired just over the limit to where I couldn't mail it in to renew it! But I got it done and now I can focus on the trip!!

So serious.
Also my hair looks like I got a sweet cut but the long tresses are still there - just in hiding.

5. I'm sleeping in a little today since I took the day off! I'll be doing a little packing, and a few long walks with my Kony and starting off my weekend early!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Nutella Stuffed Brown Butter and Sea Salt Chocolate Chip Cookies

I made these guys last week and they are finally out of our house! I couldn't keep them around because when the sweet tooth strikes, it strikes hard!
I actually am not as crazy about these as I am the best chocolate chip cookies ever, which actually deserve their own post because they are so amazing. I found the Nutella ones a little too sweet and too crumbly for me. Don't get me wrong I will probably make these again just with the best cookie recipe and then with the Nutella inside? I will work till I get it right!!

Here is the recipe I got from here thanks to my sweet friend Heather Lee who is always the best when it comes to finding great recipes!!

2 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
1/4 teaspoon of salt
2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter
1 1/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg plus 1 egg yolk
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 tablespoon plain greek yogurt
3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
1 jar of Nutella, chilled in refrigerator
Coarse sea salt for sprinkling

Whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl and set aside. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. The butter will begin to foam. Make sure you whisk consistently during this process. After a couple of minutes, the butter will begin to brown on the bottom of the saucepan; continue to whisk and remove from heat as soon as the butter begins to brown and give off a nutty aroma. Immediately transfer the butter to a bowl to prevent burning. Set aside to cool for a few minutes.
With an electric mixer, mix the butter and sugars until thoroughly blended. Beat in the egg, yolk, vanilla, and yogurt until combined. Add the dry ingredients slowly and beat on low-speed just until combined. Gently fold in all of the chocolate chips.
Chill your dough for 2 hours in the refrigerator, or place in freezer for 30 minutes if you are super eager, although I cannot promise the same results if you do this.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Once dough is chilled measure about 1 1/2 tablespoons of dough and roll into a ball. Flatten the dough ball very thinly into the palm of your hand. Place 1 teaspoon of chilled nutella in the middle and fold dough around it; gently roll into a ball -- it doesn’t have to be perfectly rolled! Make sure that the nutella is not seeping out of the dough. Add more dough if necessary. Place dough balls on cookie sheet, 2 inches apart and flatten with your hand VERY gently. (Really only the tops need to be flattened a bit!)
Bake the cookies 9-11 minutes or until the edges of the cookies begin to turn golden brown. They will look a bit underdone in the middle, but will continue to cook once out of the oven. Cool the cookies on the sheets at least 2 minutes. Sprinkle with a little sea salt. Remove the cooled cookies from the baking sheets after a few minutes and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Repeat with remaining dough.

Wishlist Wednesday: Ulta

I hate to say it but I'm pretty much stocked on things I need from Ulta. BUT I wanted to let you guys know about the unheard of 16% back from ebates for Ulta! (I also realized ebates is having a sweet sixteen where 150+ stores are having 16% cash back til May 18! Check it out here.) Also, do you guys get the 'exclusively for you' emails? I got one that was for 5X points for Tarte items! If I hadn't JUST picked up my Tarte items I definitely would have been persuaded to purchase today! If it had been for IT Cosmetics I would already have a package on it's way! ;)

Here are a few things I would pick up if I wasn't already fully stocked!

{top row: 1, 2, 3 middle row: 1, 2, 3 bottom row: 1, 2, 3}

I love Tarte products and the fact that they are cruelty free and don't have any of the nasties you don't want in your makeup is an added bonus!

I've written about the Rainforest After Dark Palette before, it is still one of my favorites and a definite go-to when at home and definitely for travel!

I like the Park Ave Princess Palette too, the colors are perfect for summer and I like that the blush and highlighter are half the size of the bronzer because let's be honest, you use way more bronzer than either blush or highlight. The one drawback for me is the blush and highlight are a little dusty, they pick up and apply beautifully but there is always a lot of fallout in the actual palette.

The waterproof mascara is the best I've used! I've reviewed it before and I use it all summer and in all water activities because this stuff sticks!

I LOVE the airbrush foundation! It feels like nothing and covers EVERYTHING! I use this brush with it and it glides on quickly and easily.

I also love their self tanner! It's always a toss up between this or the Lorac TANtalizer. They both are easy to apply, aren't streaky, don't stink, and they both come with their own mitts!

Do you guys like Tarte? What do you like? Is there something I need to try?

Book Club: The Interestings by Meg Wolitzer

The Interestings is book about a group of teenagers who went to a camp for the arts who stayed in each other's lives well past camp.

It mainly revolves around Jules, a shy girl trying to find comedic voice; Ethan, a very talented animator; and Ash, a beautiful actress and wannabe director. We meet them as shy teenagers along with Jonah, Cathy, and Goodman. They vow to stay friends after camp and they do. Once they leave they return to Ash's and Goodman, her brothers house, the Labyrinth and compete they pact. Something happens on New Years that changes the dynamic of the group and their lives forever.

We learn more about their time before camp and how it impacts their adulthood and their relationships with each other and how they became The Interestings.

I had a hard time following this book because it was so boring to me! I hate saying that but if a book is titled The Interestings it can't be uninteresting right? I could barely tell you what this book was really about I was so bored by it. It could be intriguing to some people but I found every plot line totally dull and found myself so distracted while reading it. There were plots that should have been awesome rabbit holes but it was all so surface level that I just didn't care. I had a hard time remembering who was who because their introduction was so bare. I think this was the first time I haven't had a clear picture of a character when reading a book. Part of the problem was the author told us about the characters rather than letting it show through the character. How are we supposed to root for Jules to go into comedy if we just hear she is funny and not hear her actually say anything that is funny? Ash is pretty and delicate yet I have no idea what she looks like. These things are necessary for me to get into a book.

I know several people who really liked this book whose opinions I value but I cannot recommend this book.

If you have read this and like it please let me know in the comments! Am missing something? What did you like about it?

Weekend Update

Kony and I had a pretty packed weekend! On Friday I ran around trying to pick up the things my family forgot on their way to the lake. I also dropped off some cookies at our friends Jason and Ellen's house before Jason left to start at his new practice! We had a little celebration for Louie since it would have been his first birthday too.

Afterwards I went out and celebrated with my friend Alex and some of our sorority sisters for her graduation from dental school! It was really great to catch up with these girls after so long! Even though we tried to call it a night early since most of us had early Saturday plans we still didn't get home till way past a normal bedtime.

I got up as early as I could and headed up to the lake to celebrate mothers day! Kony was great in the car with just me, but he loves the car so it was no surprise. We got there safety, I did a little sunning since I was still pretty tired from the night before. I gave mom her present - which was actually a joint Mothers and Fathers Day present. My parents are going back to Kauai for what feels like the millionth time this summer, I'm so envious! So Chris and I gave them a gift certificate to The Beach House where Chris and I got married. They loved it!

Kona and I went out on the SUPs and he did so well! That night we enjoyed some tacos and cookies, Jackson got some ideas from us and partook in an empty Coronita. So funny! I called it a night early because I was still SO so tired!

On Sunday we headed out on the lake but the sun wasn't really cooperating but that didn't stop us as long as there was no thunder or lightening. I finally got up on a slalom and rode for quite a while! Hopefully it will all come back to me quicker next time! We had a lot of fun but finally we had to pack it up and head home. Kony and I got home just in time to miss the storms but came home to a rainbow! We were both still pretty tired from our fun weekend so we headed to bed so we could start our week on the right foot!

Hope you all had a great weekend too and Happy Mother's Day!

5. I've been pretty recipe heavy this week! I think I might need to change my recipes tab for an easier access to what is posted. What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments!

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

April Purchase History

I've tried to hold out on certain purchases since January but I loved one thing from my last order I couldn't let other colors get away! These are so not exciting but these open cardigans are really comfy and beyond normal quality for Forever 21.

I am in love with this jacket! It's super comfy and just warm enough for a chilly summer night.

I got this tank for me as a beach cover up because I thought it was so cute and it turned out REALLY cute! I don't know if any guy I know would ever wear it but it is adorable as a beach cover-up!

Like I said before these cardigans are insanely comfy and are beyond the quality you would normally find at Forever 21. I got all three colors because it's so nice to throw on something so soft in the evenings.

So I mainly got this guy because I knew I wouldn't get one from the Lilly for Target collection! I rarely wash my hair over the weekends and this wrap really hides all manner of hair foes and woes!

Since I had the derby party I was thinking about getting a new hat in the mix and really loved this one. At first I was nervous when I got it because it was pretty smashed in the box but it popped right into shape and I'm excited to get to wear it in the warm weather! I'm also excited that it won't get ruined if it get a little smashed!

So tell me, did you guys find any great deals in April? I can tell you since we have Mother's Day and Chris' Birthday I've already got the wheels in motion for some good purchases in May!

Weekend Update

This was graduation weekend for the Orthodontists! We had six new graduates this Friday. They had a sweet dinner and they all gave a video tribute. We'll miss them so much! They'll be spread out from Wilmington, NC, Las Vegas, NV, all the way to France.

I can't believe Chris only has one year left! He is officially a third year! We had to keep celebrating after graduation so we went out to an old haunt and I ran into some of the girls on the exec board I advise. We stayed up way past our bed times especially since we both had to get up early in the morning to help our friends move.

Aaaaand I just realized we were all wearing jumpsuits! haha!

On Saturday we went out to Angier for a Derby Party. My friend is a vet and her and her husband have a large farm with lots of animals, peacocks, swans, horses and alpacas!

Apparently the swans can be very mean so we kept our distance, especially since they have several eggs too. We had a blast, we had so much amazing food and enjoyed watched American Pharoah win! We made it back to Chapel Hill in time to watch Mayweather beat Pacquiau. I almost didn't make it, we were so exhausted after our very long day!  I don't think I'll ever watch another fight, not really my sport of choice to watch. I do like to watch the horses race! I can't wait for Keeneland this fall!

I went for a more infield look, I was this close to wearing a flower crown but decided on one of my hats I don't get to wear very often. Of course Chris will use any reason to break out the bow ties!

On Sunday Chris had some work to do at school so I did some chores and packed the house a little bit. We treated ourselves to a little steak dinner since Chris is going out of town soon and we wanted to have a nice dinner at home together. But now we are completely exhausted and I need another weekend!

Hope you had a great one and got to enjoy the beautiful weather!

{Clearly I was delirious when I first wrote this so my apologies for any of you who read this first thing, it was riddled with typos and other nonsensical language!}

Friday Five

It's MAY AND it's FRIDAY!! Can't get better than that!

1. It's Graduation day!! It's always bittersweet around graduation since people are leaving and especially sad for us since we lost Louie on Wednesday. We found out that he had spontaneous pneumothorax and they saw 2 large bulla on his lungs; basically his lungs collapsed. Prayers for our friends Jason and Ellen as he graduates and they mourn the loss of their sweet puppy!

2. I keep seeing A Common Names Urban Geode Street Art pop up on so many outlets, Instagram, tumblr, and my bloglovin' I think it is so cool and you should definitely check it out!

3. We have a Derby party to go to this weekend an I'm so excited! I still haven't landed on what exactly I'll wear but I have plenty of options for dresses and hats!

4. I just have to do another gif of Kona spazing out since I've had to get extra snuggles from him!

Hahaha!! I might be the only one that thinks that's funny but I love it, plus Chris is in a constant nose scratch back there!

5. Today is the LAST DAY to get 20% off the TAG NECKLACE (use code HAPPYMOM at check out) from my sister's store. These are one sided only, which I didn't know so I thought I would let you know! Jewelry making is TOUGH!

Hope you have a great weekend and Happy Derby!!
