Louie

Yesterday Chris called me while I was at work to tell me our friends puppy had passed away. I just immediately broke down, Louie was Kona's best friend, they played all the time and we took care of him occasionally. Just the day before Louie and Kona were having a blast playing together and getting in the mud like the naughty dogs they are. Louie would have been one on May 8 and I hate that Jason is graduating and they are moving and now without their sweet pup Louie. We still don't know what happened, Ellen came home to get new contacts for work and she found him still in his crate. I can't believe this sweet little dog is gone, here are some of the many videos I took of them together.

Rest in Peace little Louie! Us and Kona will miss you so much!

Since the Derby is coming up THIS WEEKEND! AND there re tons of graduation events I thought I would check out some dresses for the upcoming weekend!

How to Clean your Front Loading Washing Machine

I mentioned a few weeks ago Chris and I picked up a new washer and dryer off craigslist. So far they work great! The only problem is that it had a little mildew on the rubber gasket. I looked up a couple ways to clean them and this one has worked pretty well.

{image}
You make a combination of 1 cup warm water and 1 cup bleach and soak some wash clothes in the mixture and leave them in the crevices of the gasket and leave on for about 12 hours. Remove the clothes and then wash as normal on the hottest setting. Once the cycle is done add 2 cups of vinegar to wash and wash once more on the hottest setting. (Never combine bleach and vinegar!) Leave the door open for it to dry properly.

After the first round the smell was completely gone! I've done a couple rounds of this treatment and it has shown some real results, nearly all the visible spots are gone! It still isn't completely like new but it is about a thousand times better than it was when we got it!

Have you guys needed to clean your washing machine? What has worked for you guys? Please let me know so I can test it out!

Weekend Update

What a doozy! Chris and I started out at Fridays on the Front Porch with some friends where I also ran into a friend I used to work with in DC! Small world right? We called it a night early since we had to get up early to get down to Wilmington in the morning. Unfortunately it was rainy so Chris and Kona had to spend the day at the park while I had lunch with some sorority sisters. I learned one of the girls sisters, Ashleigh Stumler is hiking part of Mt. Everest and was set to come home on Tuesday but is stuck because of the earthquake. She's had a hard time there already, her luggage didn't get there until three days after she arrived, she was robbed from her tent, it was her birthday on Friday and then the earthquake hit! If you want to help with the cause here are a few organizations you can donate to: Doctors without Borders: Providing ground teams, both medical and otherwise, as well as 3,000 non-food kits and medical supplies; MAP International: already sending a shipment of medical equipment is already on its way providing 10,000 people with medical aid for 90 days; Save the Children: created a Nepal Children's Relief Fund that can be found on their front page.

We came back home for another party for the graduates! I can't believe they graduate next week!! We enjoyed some great food and company and plenty of kids. Chris and I were so exhausted we called it a night early. We started Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and it is so cute and funny! It's very silly but I thought it was ridiculously funny and I'm bummed we have to wait for the second season.

On Sunday I got all kinds of chores done and we picked up some boxes so we can start packing, one month and then we're out! We had another party with Chris' lab and man are we not ready for kids at this point, we have been around so many kids lately we are really grateful for the quite and just hanging around with this little guy:

We have a less filled week but more eventful! Hope you all had a great weekend too!

Finally Friday!!

I feel like this week just went on forever!!!

1. I learned how to gif! Kind of. Enjoy this gif of baby Kona harassing my parents dog Jack...

I totally forgot how little he was! Here's the story of Kondog if you want to know!

2. Seriously, a packed week and a packed weekend! Chris and I are running down to Wilmington for a couple hours for a party then turning around and coming back to Chapel Hill for another party and then another on Sunday! We sleep when we're dead!

3. Last night Chris and I went to the Basketball Awards Banquet and Senior Dinner for Duke and it was really fun! We got to hear Coach K speak about his team and it was really sweet to see them interact like a family. I also really liked hearing Quinn Cook and Sean Kelly talk about their time on the team.

4. I got my bridesmaid dress for my very sweet friend Hannah's wedding, now I just need to get it altered. Oh yeah and try it on! I've had it for a couple days and haven't had time to even get it out of the box! I'm excited to have enough time to open a box! haha! I'm sure our mailperson hates me because I don't remember the last time I checked the mail! April, you're killing me!

5. My sweet sister who is also a mom has a 20% off promotion for her tag necklace this week with the code HAPPYMOM! You can check out her website here and facebook here!

I hope you all have a restful and fun weekend so come on weekend let's GO GO GO!!!!

Cracked

I mentioned in this post that at one point I didn't have but a little tiny bit left of a couple bronzers and used what was left to make another pretty good sample size bronzer to use while I waited for a new one. I asked if you guys knew how to revamp your pressed powder items and I thought I would share with you guys that you can fix any cracked pressed powder.

I started out with this blush, it's Pinched from NYX and I really like it but I've hit pan and I don't want to mess up my brush. So with the end of my tweezers I crushed up the remains of my blush and then added a good amount of 91% Isopropyl Alcohol. It needs to be enough that it will cover all of the bits. I then crushed the bits a little more until they were well incorporated. I then let it sit out for about a day to dry out.

Finally after a day or so I came back to a solid blush!

Have any of you guys done this before? It's so easy and will save your pressed powders!

Wish List Wednesday: DSW

I am so looking forward to our move and that we'll have a little gym to go to within walking distance from our house. We will also have a crossfit gym within walking distance that some of my friends are trying to make me join but I don't know if I'm up for that just yet! I've been wanting some new gym shoes just for weights and walking and general working out and not just running shoes. So I scoured DSW for some deals and found some cuties!

{Top Row: 1, 2, 3, 4 Middle Row: 1, 2, 3, 4 Bottom Row: 1, 2, 3, 4}

And of course with summer coming up I had to look for some cute sandals too!

So have you found any cute shoes lately? I've been loving that sneaker trend lately!

Book Club: The Girl on the Train By: Paula Hawkins

I caved and picked The Girl on the Train from Barnes and Nobel a few weeks ago.  I picked it up initially because I was a girl on the train a couple years ago and would often think about the people and places I would pass on a regular basis.

{image}
The Girl on the Train follows Rachel, a divorcee as she rides her daily train to and from the city. She makes up little personas for the people she sees from her seat on the train. There is a sweet couple she frequently sees and they are madly in love and do everything for one another until one day Rachel sees the wife with another man! A few days later the wife turns up missing. Rachel feels compelled to tell the police what she saw. The only problem is Rachel is a very unreliable witness. Rachel is an alcoholic and was seen in the neighborhood the night the young wife went missing with no memory of what really happened.

This story is told from three perspectives and about 2 different timelines which can start off confusing but once you establish who is who it's easy to see where each player is placed. I don't want to write too much because I'll just tell the whole story!

I really liked this book and I also got very annoyed with it because Rachel is so unreliable and she messes up right when you want her to do the right thing! But that's what makes it so good! There was even a twist that totally broadsided me! This was definitely a 5 out of 5 for me. It was so vivid, I really felt like I saw what I was meant to see and blurry where Rachel was drinking, blacking out or in her own fantasy. It drove me crazy in the best way, it was so popular that when I brought it to book club 2 of us brought it and both were snatched up during the first round!

Please let me know if you have read this book and what you thought!

Weekend Update

Honestly April is such a wild month for us! On Friday we celebrated my sorority sister Alex's birthday, her last day of dental school and finally Chris' boards are done at Top of the Hill!  We had to take one of our friends home, a chaperon's work is never done I guess!

The next day Chris and I had a picnic with the whole program and little Kona went pretty wild in the park and has been sleeping ever since! We then hung out with Chris' brother for the rest of the day.

On Sunday we had lunch with some friends at Bull City Burgers and Brewery and then went to celebrate these two cuties before they get married in August!

Hope you all had a great weekend and got to enjoy the pretty weather before we all get back to the grind!

Friday, April 17, 2015

Yay! It's Friday!

Ready for the weekend over here!

1. Woohoo!! The Sephora VIB sale started yesterday! I hope you have finalized you shopping lists!

2. Why is this so funny to me?

3. The Lilly for Target collection is coming out on Sunday!! The ENTIRE collection is here if you need a preview! Here are a few things that I'll be on the lookout for!

4. You may or may not have noticed I added some tabs at the top to find my reads and eats in one place! Do you guys want to see more categories?

5. We've got a couple parties this weekend I'm looking forward to and I'm getting sad about graduation soon! I can't believe Chris will be on his FINAL YEAR of school!! It feels like we lived in Baltimore a lifetime ago! Speaking of, Dr. Chris will be taking his boards this morning so say a little prayer he does well! One more year and we'll be looking like this again!!

Hope you have a great weekend!

Book Club: Wife 22 by Melanie Gideon

I was intrigued to pick up Wife 22 from my book club because it was described as a cute book where a wife fills out a survey about marriage and learns more about her own life and marriage while answering questions. (which are in the back of the book!)
{image}

Alice has been married to her husband, William for about 20 years and they are at an impasse. William has just been laid off and Alice is trying to figure out her marriage through this survey. They also have two teenage children also trying to find themselves while Alice is trying to find out if one is gay and if the other has an eating disorder. While answering the questions she befriends her anonymous surveyor and tries to keep herself from flirting with him while also telling him her marriage issues.

I kind of felt like this book read like Bridget Jones' Diary. She was a little sad and was in need of some serious help, she has great, hilarious friends who tell her as it is and pity her downfalls. I found it a little predictable and too easy of a read. I got annoyed with her inability to function without checking her phone all the time. I try to not use my phone too much, especially when I'm with other people but her constant checking got on my nerves. Everything was a little too obvious to me, where I can understand why someone might drop this book at page 50 and still know what happen in the end. It was very sweet, I'll give it that, verging on saccharine. Worth finishing but maybe not totally worth picking up.

Sorry to start your Thursday on such a lame note but I have already finished another book and had to let you know about this kind of bummer book. I mean it is really light so if you want something so easy to read by the pool this could be the book for you, but since it was rainy and this was all I was paying attention to it just didn't hold up for me.

Have you read Wife 22? Let me know what you thought!

Wish List Wednesday: Forever 21

Yeah this is like my kryptonite. I can't help but look at those ridiculous manikins in the window and incessantly find cheap clothes on the site, which is a thousand times easier than actually going in the store! I was inspired by Molly at Almost Makes Perfect to admit my addiction and show you a couple things that I have bought recently and loved and some things that are hanging out in my shopping cart lurking and waiting ever so patiently for me to finally decide the just buy!

First off with what I have actually bought in the past month:

These shoes are actually really cute and comfy and so far seem to be well made!
The Flower Crown is for a party I have coming up and it seems to be well made too, a lot of flowers and the band is of a high quality as well.
Finally this cardigan, yeah it's super plain but it is so soft and comfy and honestly, I could see myself paying twice as much for one not as nice looking or soft.

These guys are all chillin on my waiting list!

Is there anything you guys are looking at Forever 21 for? What store can you just not let go of? Let me know in the comments!

Sample Saturday: Caudalie Vinosource Overnight Recovery Oil Review

So I got the tiniest sample of this from some Sephora order and I finally tried it out and I am seriously blown away! Honestly I've heard a lot about Caudalie and just thought it was over-hyped but I still have been wanting to try some of the standouts like the Beauty Elixir but when I finally tried the Overnight Oil I realized what the hype was about!
{image}
Honestly my skin looked radiant the next morning! I've tried so many different kinds of masks and oils and this has really topped them all! I only got to use it for two nights (it was a .03oz sample!) but after those two nights my skin has never looked so luminous! It looked hydrated, full, and bright, everything I want! Even my makeup smoothed on nicely and my pores looked smaller after one use. I definitely want to try the full size and possibly the favorites kit.

In the realm of overnight recovery I have tried: Josie Maran Argon Oil, Tarte Maracuja Oil, Algenist Repairing Oil, PTR Oil-less Oil, PTR Cucumber and rose masks, (my review herePTR Camu Camu Brightening Mask, PTR Laser-free Resurfacer,  Glam Glows Thirsty Mud, Ole Henriksen's 3 Little Wonders, and Cliniques Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel. Are those enough? Don't worry, pretty much all of those were samples and the only ones that come close the the results I had with Caudalie was the Ole Henriksens 3 Little Wonders which include a day and night moisturizer as well as a brightening serum.

I don't think I have been this excited about a product in a long time! In case you are wondering I have normal to combination skin, not too prone to breakouts, however I still get hormonal breakouts. I have read this gave some users issues with pimples popping up after use so if you are prone to breakouts get a sample to try before you make the $52 splurge!

Please let me know if you have tried this before and if you liked it, have you tried anything similar? Let me know in the comments!

Weekend Update

Well I got some rest this weekend! Chris and I mostly just hung out together on Friday so he could study and I got some house work done. On Saturday I went on a Home Tour with one of my friends and we saw some really cool houses and tried a lot of good food and wine!

This one house had a theater room, a wine cellar, a HUGE back yard and probably 12 of the coolest chandeliers I have ever seen. Plus they were a super young couple, whatever they are doing they are doing it right!

Afterwards Chris and I played some disc golf with some friends to enjoy the beautiful weather. Kona LOVED playing outside and was fully exhausted when we got home. Chris and I took it easy for the rest of the weekend, I took a really nice nap on Sunday and prepped myself for the brunt of Monday. Honestly most of my weekend was caught on snapchat so feel free to follow me there! (Marisa_Camille)

Hope you had a great weekend!

March Purchase History: Beauty Buys

Sorry this is so late Chris and I were triple booked last night and went to bed as soon as we got home! Although it was pretty restless, the thunder and lightning was so bad we had to pull out our blackout curtains!

So I know I told you I put myself on a spending ban but since I was doing several girls hair for their formal I legitimately needed to buy a couple things from Ulta. I tried to keep it down to things I actually needed or was running out of so here it goes!

I pulled out my seche vite a few weeks ago and both bottles were completely solid! It was pretty hilarious! I had heard this Sally Hansen one was good so I thought I would try it out, plus it was on sale! I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but I'll let you know!
I was completely out of brow gel and my brows can get a little cray when not properly tamed! I also have been really wanting to try some other tinted brow gels, still have my eye on L'Oreals and Tarte's.  But I thought I would give a drugstore one a shot first!
Of course I needed more hairspray, man, my girl Carson has a TON of hair!
Finally I was nearing the end of my samples of bronzers and have had my eye on this guy for a while, of course not a week later does Ulta pull out the Little Black Book of Bronzers! I had actually gotten so desperate I combined the dregs of two samples, NARS Laguna and Too Faced Milk Chocolate to make one to last! (Do you guys know how to do that? It's super easy!)

So far so good on everything I've tried, I'm still REALLY holding back on make up buys but hopefully it will get easier!

Happy almost Friday!

Also, don't forget to use your ebates too! might as well get a little more cash while you're at it! :)

Let me know, what you splurge on for the sale? I still love my mug and tee (similar) I got last year!

Duke Wins!!!

{image}
Woohooo!!! Chris and I of course stayed up to watch the game and Chris almost lost it a couple times. This was a great season for us personally, we got to go to 4 games, we saw Coach K get his thousandth win, and watch them win the National Championship! Hopefully we'll see some of these guys next year still at Duke but who knows. Either way we're happy for the W!

Weekend Update

Guys, I'm exhausted! On Saturday I spent most of my day volunteering at the Museum of Life and Science in Durham. I actually had a lot of fun and would do it again, but maybe in more sturdy shoes! I helped out with a Dino Egg Hunt, basically hiding eggs for kids to find and making sure they didn't take more than their share. I met some really awesome people and had a blast. This place is so cute and I think it would be really fun to take your kids there! There were so many times I wanted to take pictures of the kids having fun, but you know, that gets pretty creepy!

The rest of our evening was filled with Basketball! Chris and I are getting pretty excited for tonight! On Sunday we were our own Easter bunnies and bought ourselves a wash and dryer set!

I think this is the kind we got, but we got the set for only $300! Craigslist is our friend! Then we finally finished our taxes and I can forget about that for a whole year!

Hope you all had a great weekend too!

Five on Friday

Hope you all had a great week! Here a few things making me happy this week:

1. How cute is this clutch? It's getting me so ready for summer and some delicious watermelon cake!

2. Speaking of cake I'm ready to start handing out cupcakes to everyone I meet! Chris and I can't keeping eating all the cupcakes and banana pudding we made this week!

3. SPEAKING of banana pudding I have been working out more and taking Kony on long walks and we both love it! This warm weather is really doing it for us! Follow me on snapchat (marisa_camille) to see pretty much Kona exclusively, and the random stuff I do everyday. To help not turn into a pile of pudding I have been doing Blogilates at home. this one and this one are my favorites on repeat right now! I also really love KymNonStop for HIIT workout and workouts you can do really quickly or make them a much longer session on your own time.

4. I got some pics from the formal I chaperoned and there are some pretty cute ones!

5. I can't get over how nice this weather is! Guys it's happening! The season might finally be changing to Spring!!

Hope you all have a great weekend and Happy Easter!

For as long as I can remember my mom has made these Easter cupcakes and they are so cute! They bring back a lot of memories and they literally bring my best friend to our house every Easter because she loves them so much.
