High Five for Friday!

Yay!! I'm so excited for the weekend! Mr. Chris and I are going home to see the families and I'm ready to get my time with that cute little red head!

1. I got to have dinner this week with some girlfriends at City Kitchen and had a great time catching up and enjoying some half off wine and great food.

2. I have been really getting back into working out and I have been feeling great mostly because I indulged quite a bit over break and now all my clothes fit again!

3. Valentines day is coming up and I love seeing all the pinks and reds everywhere. Chris and I are trying to figure out a couple plans coming up with friends and I think we might have some friends over on Valentines day. But seriously, how could you not love all the sweet hearts and flowers everywhere?

Also, can I please wear, afford and find a place to wear this?

4. Speaking of pretty pink things I have been trying to put myself on a beauty ban. Ugh this is so hard.

5. But I haven't put a ban on clothes shopping...yeesh. Just kidding, I have a trip coming up soon and there are a couple things I need and I decided to just add a couple more things to the cart. I'll let you know what works out.

Hope you all have a great weekend!!!

Getting back in the Swing

Ahh! It feels good to be back! After the holidays I always feel like it takes a while to get back into my old routine. Blogging, and working out are probably the harder things for me to get back into once I drop them. Well I've come back to both and I feel great! Of course I wish I had started working out before we went to Miami but my body is my body.

While I was on my little break I found so many images from Rob Gonsalves that I fell in love with. Most people call it magic realism where he takes realistic images and manipulates them into magical optical illusions. Its taking an ordinary life and making it magical. Here are a few that I really like:

I just now realized I like pretty much all the paintings that are in the sky. There is so much thought that goes into his paintings and they are so imaginative I just love them.

Have you guys found any artists you like? Let me know in the comments!

Miami Wedding

Dr. Chris and I have a couple good friends that live in Miami and after about 9 years of dating finally tied to knot! When we were invited we were so excited but also what do you wear to a 3:00pm wedding in Miami in January? This thought plagued me for MONTHS! I looked at so many dresses and made orders and returns and finally when I went home over Christmas I went shopping with my mom and sister and we found the dress that was for me! But first here were some other options I didn't get to try on and I actually saw a couple of these at the wedding!

{Top Row: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6; Middle Row: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6; Bottom Row: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6}

I ended up going to with this beautiful number and I loved it! We had such a blast with all our friends and we can't wait to be reunited again! Hopefully back in Miami!

Book Club: The Night Circus by: Erin Morgenstern

During my little hiatus I read only a couple books, as I was sick and so busy I just didn't get in as much reading as usual.

I finished The Night Circus and I was a little disappointed. I think I had built it up in my head to be more fantastical than it ended up being. Don't get me wrong it was a great book and I would recommend it but it would only give it 3 out of 5. I had been wanting to read this book for about 3 years and never got around to picking it up and when it came up at book club I knew I had to get it.

The Night Circus is about a mysterious circus that materializes in the night with no warning or preamble, and it's possibly the most magical and wonderful circus in the world. There are revelers that come from far and wide to see the circus and follow it as far as their money will take them. There is a secret within the circus and a competition between magicians who have been trained nearly their whole lives to compete. The competitors don't know who they are competing against, what the prize is and what the punishments will be if they drop out.

This is a great premise and it would have completely won me over had the author not strayed from the main story. In the middle it gets bogged down with details and other uninteresting characters when there were other far more interesting characters I would have liked to get to know. I think this book would have been far better as a collection of short stories about the circus, I would have read those in a second!

I can't say I wouldn't recommend this book because I would, it was a good read and I think it would be a much better beach read than holed up on a winter night.

Welcome back!

Oh my it's been a while! Right before Christmas I got so overwhelmed with Christmas plans and work that I had to drop something off and unfortunately it was the blog! :( Then after Christmas Dr. Chris and I got super sick and then we jet-setted off to Miami for a friends wedding! All of that will be caught up with shortly! In the mean time I hope everyone had a great break and I'm excited for a new year with you all!
