TGIF!

Oh my it's been quite a crazy month for me!! I wasn't planning on taking a break but it was much needed. I'm back and refreshed and feel great! So where I've been...

1. I was in one of my best friends weddings! Hannah is so amazing and the women she chose to stand with her were some of the most incredible people I have ever met. I was so honored she asked me to be a bridesmaid. It was completely gorgeous and they had some of the most beautiful fall weather to compliment their gorgeous ceremony. Chris and I had a blast and are ready to go back to Lexington ASAP!

2. We had dinner with an orthodontist in Greensboro to talk about the practice, we have a couple more lined up in the near future but we still don't know where we'll end up! I don't think we will find out until 2016! It's a little stressful trying to figure out our lives at this point, especially since we are constantly asked where we'll end up. Chris has also been interviewing incoming students for the Ortho Program. It's pretty crazy that he'll never actually work with them! We're on the home stretch!!

3. I've been missing my sweet niece and nephew, I mean how can you not when you get pictures like this...

4. I wasn't feeling great last week and Chris brewed some ginger syrup for me since he couldn't find my favorite ginger beer, and it was AMAZING! I felt so much better. Plus our entire house smelled like ginger. It was pretty above and beyond considering he cleaned the house too after all the construction we've had going on...VVV

5. Finally what has been keeping me most occupied for October was our Halloween costumes! If you follow me on snapchat (marisa_camille) I was driving you crazy with the process but very few clues as to what we actually were. Well...

We didn't make it very far down Franklin Street because we kept being stopped for pictures!

We had a ton of fun but it was pretty exhausting! You can see my Karate Gi got a little banged up but we survived and had so much fun!!

Also my birthday is NEXT WEEK! How is this happening!? The year is flying by! I hope you all have had a great October and a great weekend!!

Weekend Update

Seriously I don't know how much longer I can take this rainy weather! I didn't get to go to my friends show because it literally got rained out! Chris went to the Hurricanes game and came home to a bustling cleaning wife. I don't know about you guys but I feel like I can get so much work done when Chris is gone. It's like a race to see how much I can get done before he gets home. It was great to get so much done before the weekend really started.

On Saturday we went out with some friends for dim sum for brunch. It was so good and it's always helpful to have our friends who know what they're doing come with us. With all the rain and one event under our belt Chris and I finished projects around the house and called it a day. This rain just sucks the life out of you.I did take the opportunity to try out some hair and makeup for next weekend for one of my very best friends wedding! I am still on the fence on what I want to do but we'll see!

On Sunday we finished all the stuff outside of the house. Made a ton of returns and started our Halloween costumes! One of our favorite times of year!!

Ugh sometimes I just want to squeeze his little face!!

To help us get out of our rain slump and to end the weekend on a high I made our favorite pumpkin soup! I hope you all had a great weekend and used this rain to get work done you wouldn't want to do in beautiful weather!

Linking up with an NC fav Meghan and Biana (who is in Boston but I still love!)

It's Friday!!

Ugh this rain!! I know we needed it but come on! Chris and I were going to go to Wilmington this weekend but decided we are going to hibernate at home instead since it's going to be raining at least till Tuesday. On that note...

1. I totally wore gym pants under my dress today! It's so chilly and I'm just not ready for it, I don't have my tights out yet so, yes, gym pants under dress under trench. That's how I roll.

{via}

2. Well Chris and I tried to see the superblood moon lunar eclipse but were busted by all the RAIN!!! This is pretty much our reaction...

So jealous of you lucky ducks that got to see it!

3. I really love to see events like this, I still remember watching my first meteor shower as a kid. We went out to my grandparents farm (way less light pollution) and snuggled under blankets and stayed up late watching tons of space junk fall into our atmosphere. So cool. Speaking of, this video is SO cool. This project seems so simple but I know it took a ton of work.

4. We do have a couple things planned this weekend. Chris is going to the Hurricanes game and then we're meeting up at a friends show in Raleigh. I'm pretty excited to see some old pals I haven't seen in a while, since they moved here in AUGUST!

5. All this rain has me looking for a new trench. My old one is still tried and true but it isn't actually water resistant so we need to remedy this at some point. Of course I won't get anything until I find something I really love. Any suggestions?

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend and stay dry!!

Book Club: The Dressmaker by Kate Alcott

Has it been forever since I wrote a book review? Oh it's because I've picked up several terrible books and had to put them down because they couldn't keep my attention. Finally I found one that I could get through!

{via}
This book is about Tess, an aspiring seamstress who takes a chance on herself and boldly makes a case for herself to board the Titanic in the company of a world famous designer, Lady Duff Gordon. While on board she meets a kind sailor who defends her when she makes a small misstep which turns into a huge embarrassment for her and Lady Duff Gordon. She also meets an eccentric businessman from Chicago who dazzles her with stories of America. On the fourth day disaster strikes and Tess has to make quick choices that will either save her life or send her to the freezing water. Thanks to her quick thinking she is able to save herself and a few others and once safe on land she catches the eye of a New York reporter who wants to find out what really happened on Lady Duff Gordon's life boat.

Back on dry land Tess has to decide on her loyalty for Lady Duff Gordon, how she feels about the sailor and the business man and how she is going to survive in this new world.

I liked this book, I didn't learn until the end that it was based on true events. Of course I knew about the Titanic but I didn't know Lady Duff Gordon was a real person and there were many questions about her life boat in particular. There were parts int eh book I didn't really care for or felt too unrealistic and took me out of my book dream. But this is such a quick read if you don't like it you've probably already finished it!

I also found it interesting that if you want to look for more books by Kate Alcott you'll have to look under Patricia O'Brien. Ms. O'Brien has written several other books but couldn't get The Dressmaker picked up, she changed her name to Kate Alcott and it got picked up in 3 days!

Weekend Update

I had a whole post ready to go but it's pretty wordy and probably boring so basically it can all be summed up with: We went to Charlotte so Chris could help with the MOM Clinic in Gastonia and I got to spend a lot of quality time with Parker, Jackson and Noelle. It drizzled the entire weekend but that's fine because:

Hope you had a wonderful weekend! :)

TGIF!

I've been a little off the grid the past couple weeks mostly because...

1. Parker Munoz Pruett woke me up at 1:30am to tell me she was on her way! Chris had taken our car for the weekend so I got up, called an Uber, ordered a rental car, took the Uber to the airport, grabbed my rental, went home, threw stuff in a duffle, grabbed a sleeping Kona and headed down to Charlotte at around 3:15am. I was just past Mebane when I got a text that she was born at 3:34am!

Mom and baby are doing great and are home with Dad and Brother!

2. While I was in Charlotte I got to spend a little time with Heather Lee, it's her birthday on Sunday and I won't see her so we got drinks at Paco's Tacos in between fawning over Parker.

3. I've been feeling a little off these past couple months and I'm starting to feel a bit more like myself. Have you guys ever had just off months? Sometimes just forcing yourself to do the normal things helps but sometimes it takes a long time to get back in the swing of things. I don't know what threw me off but boy it feels good to feel more like myself again!

4. I've been cleaning out our closets lately and slowly finding pieces that I really like. I have been wanting to remove most of my closet because I KNOW I don't wear a lot of the things in there and it's nice to just have room. Speaking of making room Dr. Chris finally got my trays for my teeth! I know my teeth are pretty straight but my laterals drive me crazy since they have migrated from facing out to straight forward. We'll see how it goes in 10 weeks! Until then I'll have an awesome lisp! :) It's pretty cool to see the difference Dr. Chris makes! He's taken off several sets of braces for patients he's started and it's pretty incredible the difference it makes. Hopefully they dont loose their retainers like me!!

5. I'm going back to Charlotte this weekend to see Ms. Parker and I'm so excited for Chris to finally be able to meet her! He has seen about a thousand pictures of her but you just can't capture the full extent of her cuteness!

Hope you all have a great weekend!!

Lake Weekend

What a weekend! Chris and I had a lovely secluded weekend to ourselves. The nice thing about going up to the lake is there is already almost no one there but this weekend we only saw about four people total. It was just a great time to spend one on one time with just each other.

We went up on Friday night, made ourselves at home, had dinner and talked the night away. The next day since Chris, Dad, and Jeremy had cleaned the place out the previous weekend Chris and I made iced coffee the night before. Neither of us had tried this experiment before and luckily it worked out! We then got everything ready for our adventure for the day. We kayaked for most of the day and had captain Kona at our steer and bow. He finally seemed to get more comfortable with the water. It was perfect weather for us, warm and overcast but no rain! Before we went in for dinner we saw some friends on their boat and of course they asked about baby girl Pruett, who is still in hiding!

We enjoyed dinner and quiet time together. It's interesting how when you're by yourselves with no outside stimulation the topics that come up. Of course we listened to music and a couple podcasts but without the normal disturbances we got a chance to just be together in a way we don't normally get.

We went out again on Sunday, it was much sunnier but way more windy and chilly!! Definitely had our first taste of fall up there! We only paddled for a couple hours before we were ready to warm up and head home. I'm so grateful Chris and I got this weekend to connect and be super active together.

Hope you all had a great one too!

TGIF!!!

Finally it's Friday!! Why are short weeks the longest?? Here's my five on Friday!

1. Chris and I are headed to the lake this weekend solo. We really need some alone time away from our house. The lake is perfect since it is so secluded we can get to hang out by ourselves!

2. Thankfully it's not so secluded that we can now get a phone signal up there in case baby girl Pruett decided to make her debut a little early!

3. I made a couple orders over the past few weeks and like a dummy I changed my billing address but didn't change my mailing address and had to run by our old place yesterday. It was so weird to see how someone else would decorate it! But I got this awesome rug that I am really pumped to have in our kitchen!

{via}

4. Why is this so hilarious and amazing? Sad to say it makes me want to get drunk with Chris and recount the very very beginning of our relationship because being in high school adds a whole other arena of drama and hilarity.

5. Finally this song is how I will welcome my weekend! If you've been around for a while you'll know I am obsessed with the Paralympics and even though they don't focus on that directly I think it's awesome they put a spotlight on people with different abilities and their athleticism. Welcome to the weekend!

p.s. my thoughts on today are ever changing, here's how I felt and my experience from 2011

What's Hap-Pinning!?

After a little hiatus I'm back! Last week I was in the thralls of Sorority Recruitment and was trying to help figure out which of the roughly 800 women coming through would be a Chi Omega. I think we found some great women and all their hard work was definitely worth it!!

This weekend however was all about my girls! Some of mine and Heather Lee's friends from DC came down for the first time and we did it up right!! We had many brunches starting at Tupelo Honey.

We went to visit Ms. Heather Lee's work at ESPNU, which is so crazy cool. I couldn't be more proud of her! Plus we got to go all around behind the scenes!

{with Brendan Fitzgerald and Kevin Carter}

p.s. dont you love how Kevin Cater sitting down is just about as tall as me, Heather and Lisa?

While Heather worked I took the girls up to The National White Water Center and we rode the waves! So much fun! Luckily none of our crew popped out!

Thanks to our guide Dan's friend for the pic! This was his last run of the season!

After exhausting ourselves we had a chill dinner to get ready for the next day! More brunching at 5 Church, this time with a very pregnant Noelle. Somehow she still looks tiny! Only one more week!!

Noelle and I broke off for some sister time before the boys came back home and the ladies went to breweries. We ending the weekend with yet another brunch at home and then everyone headed out.

Whew! I think that's the quickest update I could have done! Glad to get back in the swing of things!

Linking up with Jenn!

40 Years

These two cuties have been married for 40 years guys! I can't believe it!

They are such a great example of a loving, fun, and steadfast marriage. I'm so happy they are my parents and wish them many more happy years! Seriously they are so fun together. I think every time I visit them they are planning their next trip, usually to Hawaii.

I love hearing them talk about their, albeit very short, courtship. They dated for about 6 weeks before they got engaged. They met on a blind date at Texas Tech. My mom was out of state and my dad was a hometown boy. My dad was late and my mom said she had a zit that felt like a unicorn horn. But clearly it still went well! My dad said he went to visit my mom's family in DC and he said he wanted to walk through those doors for the rest of his life. There is so much love between the families that I sometimes can't believe how blessed I am to be a part of it.

I got to see them briefly on Sunday, their actual anniversary, while I was driving through town. They were at my sister Noelle's house painting a room for their second grandbaby! Seriously, my parents are grandparents now?!

Happy Anniversary to the best parents a girl could ask for!

Bachelorette Weekend

Wow. I know I probably say I'm exhausted after every weekend but this is so much more extreme. I drove down to Charleston from Charlotte on Friday afternoon and was reunited with my sweet Hannah, Shemeh and finally met Sarah, Hannah's MOH and amazing weekend planner. We had an awesome house tucked right by King Street. Boy was this place tucked back there, we weaved through several houses to get to it! But this place was bomb!

We kept it pretty low key while we waited for the rest of the group playing Cads Against Matrimony and having plenty of champagne. After the rest of our crew came in we played some more games and showered her with lingerie and more than enough pairs of panties!

The next day we were all assembled, breakfasted and went straight to Folly Beach. We tanned, chatted, jumped in the waves and walked around until it started to downpour! We probably needed a break from the sun and grab some lunch anyway so it was perfect timing.

We went back and got ready for an amazing dinner and dancing. I did a lot of hair and makeup which I loved! We ate dinner at Prohibition where we had some amazing cocktails and tapas. Then it was time to get our dancing shoes on! We went to Stars, a rooftop bar to start. As we were getting ready to leave I hear a screech of MARISA!? My best friend Heather Lee is sitting there causally in Charleston! We've been so busy talking about Labor Day we forgot to talk about anything else! Talk about a mini reunion!

Then we really got to dancing! We had so much fun and even though we were not too far from our place we still needed to get an Uber for our feet! We had a wild night and I am definitely still in recovery mode, especially after driving for 6 hours. I was so happy to collapse into my comfy bed.

Hope you all had an GREAT weekend!!

TGIF!!

I am currently in Charlotte sleeping in my old bed, aka the most comfortable bed in the world! I'm just dropping Kona off with his grandparents and then I'm off!

1. Woohoo!! It's my sweet Hannah's Bachelorette Weekend!! Back to Charleston for us!!

{My Bachelorette 4 years ago!}

2. Guys these temporary tattoos are so cool! They last about 2 weeks using organic fruit dyes.

I'm backing their project because it looks so cool! How fun would it be to have these on a vacation? I think tattoos are so cool but 1. I'm too much of a wuss 2. I don't know what I would want 3. Where would I want this? ughh too many decisions! The Kickstarter ends on Friday August 28 at 9:51am so if you want to back it click here

3. Chris and I started The Jinx this week. The first episode was so gruesome I didn't think I could watch it but by the end I was ready to see how the craziness unfolds! You would think for someone that sees pretty gruesome things regularly that it wouldn't bother me but there is definitely a difference between a medical mistake and murder. Have you guys seen The Jinx? Let me know what you thought!

4. OMG for all you parents taking your kids to school for the first time here is a little something that will give you some morning tears!

OMG how sweet is that!?

5. And finally just because I have somehow still not become sick of this song and Have loved Walk the Moon since forever a movie dance compilation to welcome your weekend!

Yay!! Hope you all have a WONDERFUL WEEKEND!!

The Lady in White

As I mentioned earlier, this weekend I will be celebrating one of my best friends and Bride-to-be in Charleston! I have known Hannah since I first moved to Charlotte in 2004. She was one of my first friends I made in school and has remained a dear and loyal friend ever since. She is actually how I met my husband Chris.

A little back story...(so high school)

I met Hannah because I had a crush on a guy in one of my classes, he invited me to eat lunch with him and his friends so duh, I said yes! Turns out he was actually dating Hannah at the time! Well they didn't last much longer but Hannah and I did! Somehow I tricked her into thinking I was cool and we ate lunch together everyday after that. One day she invited one of her friends from her chemistry class to eat lunch with us. It was that super cute guy from ultimate frisbee I was always too intimidated to talk to. Little did I know that Chris wasn't as great of friends with this group of people (I was brand new to the school after all) and he started to have lunch with us everyday because of me! The rest is pretty much history!

{my first trip to KY started fresh off the plane - no make up- with a sake tasting!}

After we graduated High School I went to UNCW and Hannah went to UK. I went to visit her as often as a poor college student could (twice I think during undergrad) and we would talk long into the night about all kinds of things, mostly boys and friend drama. She exposed me to my love of bourbon and more specifically Bourbon Ales! Can't get enough! She also made me fall in love with horse racing at Keeneland.

{Bourbon tasting at Woodford Reserve}

So much so that I have convinced several other friends to make the trip out there with me!

{my second trip - visiting Four Roses}

She has been such an amazing friend to me that I asked her to stand with me during my wedding as one of my bridesmaids! Luckily she was able to make the trip out and we had a great time. She also got to use her FLUENT German with my Granny. (This made my Granny extremely happy.)
{My rehearsal in Kaua'i}

I'm looking forward to many, many, many, more adventures with her and her husband-to-be Chris!
