June Purchase History

I seriously can't believe it is already July!! This year has been FLYING! Like, I still can't believe we have been here for a whole year. Only two years left! Back to the business! You may remember from this post I made an ASOS order and here are the items I kept:
I LOVED these sunnies, plus they were only like 10 bucks! I also decided to keep the baseball tee for casual days. I ended up returning the peplum as well, I think I might try a size larger but I really loved how it looked and the structure was really nice. I'll let you know if I ended up putting in another order!
You may remember from this post I got some things from Forever 21 and I only kept these 2 things! But I love them so much already! The romper is so comfy and cute. If you're a mom who is still breast feeding this thing is for you! haha! It has a little snap at the chest so you can step into it, but also if you're feeding a little one this would be awesome! Also, sunnies, I can't resist!
You may know from this post I've been craving a new bathing suit and I placed an order at Roxy and got this guy and I love it!!

As you may know I can't resist a Bath and Body Works sale. I snatched up 5 candles for the price of ONE! Crazy man! I got two Endless Weekend candles because they are the bomb dot commmmm.

I have been able to resist all make up items this month by trying to test my myriad of samples out. I also managed to not buy anything on my trip this weekend, however long I shopped. So tell me, did you find anything awesome this month?

Beauty Trash: Products I've Used Up

It takes me a long time to use things up, even samples! I've been using a sample eye cream for almost 2 whole weeks! And it was a foil packet! That said I've finally finished up my favorite face wash right now. It's the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Deep Cleansing Cream. I've used this bottle for over a year, every. day. folks! You seriously need the tiniest amount to foam up your face, like a pea size amount! It makes my face feel squeaky clean and it's nice and gentle as well. I will say it is very pricey, which is why I cut it open once the product refused to come out and fished the rest out lasting me about a month more! I highly recommend this face wash!

I finished the Original Shea Sugar Body Scrub from Tree Hut and I will not be repurchasing purely due to scent. It's just too sweet for me and not nearly enough shea. I did start the Hawaiian Kukui scent and I really like it! Don't get me wrong, these guys get the job done without leaving a greasy residue some body scrubs do but I couldn't take that scent again.

I finally finished a Rusk Clarifying Shampoo and Conditioner. I really liked these, I alternated between several shampoo and conditioners and I always felt my hair got really clean with this one, plus they smell like a musky floral which most hair products don't have.

I had to replenish my favorite dry shampoo, it's just awesome for brunettes! That's all there is to say!

This toner was recommended by my friend in Derm Residency so I had to try it and I will definitely repurchase! It makes my face feel clean without being stripped and it's definitely helped out my acne prone skin.

After I started coloring my hair I noticed split ends that I had NEVER had before so I tried this balm out. I like it but I don't know if it had lasting effects. Probably not a repurchase.

After a while this bronzer just wasn't as good as a higher end one. Any recommendations for a drug store bronzer?

Finished this eye cream and no big changes have happened, I still have bags, they aren't any worse but they aren't improved by any means. I also dont really like dipping my fingers in a cream.

And I think that's all I have finished in the past few weeks! Do you like this kind of review? Do you have any recommendations for me?!

Book Club: How I Live Now, By Meg Rosoff

This book was...weird. I think it might just no be to my taste. I found it confusing, and very bare bones, which some people may enjoy. Apparently a lot of people have since it won the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize. How I Live Now is about 15 year old New Yorker, Daisy, who has been sent to stay with her Aunt and cousins in England. They spend the summer outside while her Aunt Penn is in Oslo. Then bombs go off and they are at war with an unnamed assailant. The book outlines their struggles of war and their separation.
I found it all just a bit too vague. I couldn't stand the writing style, she uses little if any punctuation which adds to the general confusion. There were underlying themes that were never addressed, unfinished metaphors, I just could not get into it, I also had to finish it. I don't know if I can recommend this book or not. So many people really like it, they think Daisy is sharp and witty where I think she is dull and sullen, but we are talking about a 15 year old here. I like weird books but I just can't in good conscience hype this one up. There is honestly so much more to this book that I don't want to give away to people who would like to read it.

Have you read this book? What did you think? Am I missing something?  Have you seen the movie? What should I read next?

Out of Office

Posting might be rather sparse this week since I will be heading out to Chi Omega Convention this week in Orlando, Florida. Part of what gets me excited for a trip is coming up with a packing list. Since we will have a certain dress code for certain days it actually makes things a bit easier to plan. Here is what I plan on packing to make good use of the little space I will have. Even though I am flying Southwest and can have a free checked bag I always try to get everything into a carry on.
I also like to make a list of the extra things I need to take or things I need to get done before I leave.
Tan? Check (Lorac is my fav so far!)
Nails? Check
Phone update? Check
Clean house? Check
Packing List? Check
Check into flight? Check

Then I have the TO DO list:
Band aids to cover your gross burn; Clean out purse; Pack; add contacts; Create interesting posts for while I'm gone; p.s. I'm sorry if posts look weird, I'm doing this from my ipad rather than from my lap top!

What gets you excited to go on a  trip? What should I do while I'm in Orlando? I will have a limited amount of free time one evening. So I need to make it worth it!

First Impressions: Sarah McNamara Miracle Skin Transformer

Okay this is really a first and second impression, I tried it this weekend but didn't get a picture. This picture is after an entire day of work and two dog walks, ZERO touch ups and my makeup looks pretty much like I just applied it.
Today and yesterday I used this Miracle Skin Transformer and I have to say I'm super impressed. I feel like my skin looks as close to flawless as ever, and I have like 4-5 active spots on my face and they were totally covered. You can still see my awesome forehead scar from when I feel down the stairs as a kid but that guy comes and goes and there is a little tiny bit of texture where I'm fighting some acne but seriously I haven't seen any other make up do this before!
I got this from my mom, she had tried it and didn't care for it so I gave it a shot. I have to say it's on the more expensive side, but you can check it out at Ulta, Sephora (in-store), Nordstrom, Amazon, I've even heard you might be able to get it at Costco and her website
I used as they suggest a pearl sized amount for my whole face and then used my Cover Girl 3-in-1 Foundation, and the rest of my face as normal. I'll let you know if my opinion changes in the future but for now I'm loving it!

Weekend Update

This weekend felt so long to me! We started off by celebrating our friends birthday on Friday by having dinner and going up to a wine bar and trying to snuggle up under the umbrella to keep just a little bit dry.
Can you tell the humidity fogged up the lens? The next day we went to the Cable Park for more celebrations! I have wakeboarded before but I had never done a dock start. So the first few times were pretty much like this:
But I did a sit start, which is just a bit more like starting from behind a boat and got going! I only went those few times because once you fall you have to swim {far} to get to the sides and then you wait your turn which really gives you time to get tired! My friend Jillian and I ended up enjoying the sun while the boys wakeboarded and wakeskated.
On Sunday we did some running around, wore Kona out and hung out with Dr. Chris' little and her husband  and their ADORABLE baby to watch the ups and downs and mehs of the Portugal v. US game.
So tell me, how was your weekend!? Was it hot as all get out?

Foundation Test Drive

I really love my Garnier BB Cream. It's been my favorite for quite a while. I got into BB Creams several years ago and haven't looked back since. I tried my first BB Cream from a magazine sample! That's kind of what really got my make up love going and my love of samples. Seriously a good sample is a game changer! I like to have an opaque coverage without feeling like my skin is suffocating. That first sample was L'Oreal Studio Secrets Magic BB Cream in light, I still really like that one but I like a heavier coverage and something closer to my skin tone. It also got a little patchy and didn't have the long wearing power I need.

The Garnier BB Cream gives my skin great coverage while still looking like skin and not like I am trying to hide acne scars, hyper-pigmentation, and all kinds of other skin issues, it just perfects it. I think it is one of those products that wears really well, like it looks better after 30 minutes of wear than it does at first application. I don't know how well this would fair on very oily skin or if you are prone to breakouts from sunscreen as this has some ingredients from sunscreen which can cause breakouts. This is a very liquidy BB Cream and I find that a little goes a long way, I use about a dime size or less for full-coverage on my face to neck.
I've been trying the Cover Girl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation and I am in love. I matched myself perfectly! I am so happy with this foundation. It really reminds me of my beloved Garnier BB Cream. I've been using a beauty blender to apply it and it's just to die for. Two pumps give me the full-coverage I like and it blends in so nicely. The only thing I don't love about it is it does stay on all day but it doesn't make my skin look and stay looking as flawless as my Garnier one does.
I've been using the bareMinerals bareSkin Foundation for about a month. So far I really like the lightness and how easily and nicely it blends into my skin with just a minimal amount of product. I went ahead and purchased the brush as well. I think I could definitely use the brush for other foundations too. The only drawback I've had is that since there are no bonders, i.e. oils or water you have to shake it well between applications, also the smell. I didn't smell it at first but as it wears, it smells. Unless I smell only on days I wear this foundation? It smells almost like wet hair or something musty. Otherwise I really like it. I don't know if I would purchase it again, but I wouldn't take it out of the running for a future purchase. There are some days where I feel like it takes a long time for it to blend into my skin and other days it takes less than a minute to get my whole face done.

These are just the foundations I've been using consistently over the past couple months and have really liked. So let me know in the comments what kind of foundation you like? What should I test out? I've heard really good things about the IT Cosmetics powder foundation and think that might be the next buy. Ugh and maybe the brush too. What foundation do you guys like?

Easy Vacation Makeup

While I am at the lake I try to keep everything as simple as possible. Ideally I would go no makeup but lake time is also ideal picture taking time and I would like to look awake and like a girl in those pictures! :) Here is what I took last weekend:

Tarte limited edition bronzer in Park Ave Princess and blush in Dollface. Maybelline concealer;  Tarte: Lights Camera Splashes; MAC Minaralize Skin Finish in Soft and Gentle; Tarte Lights Camera Splashes Mascara; MAC Eyebrow Pencil in Lingering; Josie Maran Cheek Gelee in Pink Escape; Make Up For Eever Aqua Eyes liner in 12L; Japonesque Eye Lash Curler; sample Bare Minerals Original Foundation in Medium Beige; Garnier BB Cream in Light/Medium
Can you see that giant mirror?! I love it! That special comes back every once in a while and I would definitely jump on it next time! I know I didn't really care for this liner before but I really like it to tight line.
What do you wear while you're on vacation?

Spy Dog

Chris and I are insanely obsessed with our dog. Like, it's really crazy. Like, Chris wanted a camera to spy on our dog during the day. My mom got it for him.
Guess what Kona does all day? Just guess. Sleeps. All day. At first I felt bad for him. Then I felt envious.
Lucky bastard.

Nordstrom Men's Half Yearly Sale

I feel like it's only fair for me to post for the men as well! Now these are things I would buy the men in my life and they all have a pretty distinct style. That said, they don't really wear graphic tee shirts but there are actually a lot of really cute ones if that is something you or the guy in your life like!

Weekend Update: The Lake and Father's Day

I hope everyone had a lovely Father's day! My family decided to change the plans last minute and go up to the lake! Unfortunately or fortunately, I go there 2 hours before everyone else!
Luckily I had my book and a private place to change into my bathing suit to enjoy the rays!
I tried all weekend to slalom but still dont have it just quite yet, I think next time I'll be up and skiing!
I hope you got to spend some time with loved ones whomever they may be!

Forever 21 Review: Fails

Yes, yes I realize I should probably stop shopping at Forever 21 but sometimes it's just so good! Unfortunately for me this order was mostly bad. I really wish they had free returns or would give you your money back rather than store credit but what are you gonna do? I had actually tried to make this order a while ago and was pretty distraught over have my card DECLINED! WHAT!? Hey man I use a budget! Apparently they had a glitch in their system and sent me an email about it as well as giving me 20% off! Woohoo!! One thing to note though, if you use a promo code all of your items will be marked as final sale. This is a lie. Unless it is one of their items that is final sale, like most accessories. You just call tell them what's up and they will send you a pdf with your order so you can return stuff. Apparently this is a thing that happens regularly. Anyway back to the fails!
I got this guy in a medium...why the hell did I get a medium? It's way too big. If the front fell down you would get a full frontal!
This I thought I liked and then just wasn't impressed. It is super soft but just not a flattering cut on me and kind of see through, but no shock there. For an extra small it's pretty big.
I really wanted to like this dress but it was much heavier than I thought it would be and again, not a super flattering cut. Again, extra small is a little big-ish.
Uggghhhhh this kind of broke my heart to return, it's so cute! But as you probably can't really see from this pic it's pretty see through. Yes I could wear a slip but I just can do that anymore, especially with a warm weather skirt. I got this in a medium and it fit really nicely, I might have been able to go down a size but I don't think
This dress will probably only be cute on someone super duper skinny. That I am not, even though I am a small. bye bye.
Then there are two items that were way too embarrassing to post pictures of myself in so here are the models looking cute:

These shorts, like most shorts fit me in the waist but in the thigh it was a no go. And I looked like a stripper/stuffed sausage in the romper. Got a small in both and could barely get in and/or out of them!
I am keeping two accessories and one clothing item which you will see in my June Purchase History at the end of the month!

Pineapple Love

As summer is almost here, even though on some days it feels like it already is, the need for pineapple grows. Chris and I have had multiple pineapples already this year. Particularly in the south the pineapple is still used as a sign of welcome.

Blog Face

I have been exploring some new-to-me blogs lately and I've noticed something. A lot of them have a blog face. What does that mean? To me, it either a Cheshire smile or serious/resting face. Obviously I have no problem with a resting face, that's totally normal, if I saw you on the street that is how you would look. It's that cheesey smile. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with smiling, smiling's the best! We should smile when we want to, but girl, we can tell from the other side of the lens you are not smiling because you want to. You're obviously there to take pictures of your outfit and peace. Or you post a million pictures of yourself having the *best* time but we can't really see your outfit because you are making the weirdest poses. Seriously, some people need to take a page out of Atlantic-Pacific's blog. She only posts 5, MAYBE 6 pictures of herself, and you can clearly see the outfit, she looks like herself, some smiling, some normal. That said, you should do what you want, I'll probably still read your blog, I just want to know if other people notice this.

The OTHER thing I've noticed a lot, a lot, a lot. Overly Photoshopped faces. Guys, we know you don't look like that. Of course there is nothing wrong with hiding a zit or moving those pesky hairs out of the way or making those bags a little lighter, but when you might as well just slap a cartoon face on your body that's where I go a little nuts. Seriously, we want to know what you really look like! Would it be such a crime for us to see your imperfections? Or your nose? Sometimes I swear they Photoshop their face so hard their nose goes away. I feel like the bigger bloggers, the 'more famous' bloggers look like them, yes the best version, but still them and a human. I hope you guys know there is a difference in the pictures below...

 {Originally posted here}

I know I don't have the prettiest skin but the point of my makeup posts is to show what WORKS! Yes, I covered a little eye baggage, nothing was going to cover it that day! And I am obviously wearing makeup, maybe one day I will have the courage to post a makeup less face. But you can still see my pores and imperfections which make me who I am. I mean, if makeup did that to my face that's one thing but makeup technology hasn't come that far yet! Actually my skin does look really good, maybe I should go back to this routine! But I just want to let you know that I would like to try to keep this blog authentic to myself. I also care about what you have to say too. I really hope you will leave comments about what you like and what you would like to see more of in the future. With that said please leave a comment on what you've liked so far and what you want to see in the future! Thank you!
