Have I really been gone for only 9 days? It feels like months! Chris and I are still enjoying our more southern state of mind and our families. I would say friends but our families are the MOST important right now. I've barely seen any friends. I'm excited to hang out with one of my bridesmaids this weekend and then head back up to the Old Line State for the New Year. I will catch up when we get back, I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! One of my favorite things is the candle light service on Christmas Eve. What was your favorite part of Christmas?
Does anyone have awesome plans for New Years? We still haven't pinned anything down yet. (of course) We might just ave friends over again and watch the fireworks on our roof one last time in Maryland! :)

A Moment of Silence

I couldn't take my eyes off the news all day Friday and it was all Chris and I talked about over the weekend. No matter your stance I think everyone in Newtown, CT deserves to be in everyone's thoughts and prayers.

Gruyere Apple Pie

I got my recipe from here. This pie is SO good, I made it for Mr. Chris since he is allergic to raw apples he can only eat cooked ones and he looooooves some apple pastries! I have been thinking about this pie for years! I was obsessed with the show Pushing Daisies, I mean I never missed one, and then would watch them on! Loved it! I was also in college at the time and had the time to watch TV  I loved the characters so much! Especially Charlotte, so cute in her dresses and pie making, she was like a mix of Emily Blunt and Zooey Deschanel. Back to the pie! In the show she makes a Gruyere Apple Pie and that always sounded so divine! Here is how I made my pie!

Dinner Last Night {again}

Mr. Chris and I went a little cray last night for dinner. Like, a mini feast was had. I really wanted to make this recipe from Edible Perspective and when Chris heard 'steak' all he wanted was an actual meat steak. So I relented and he made a steak for himself. Little did he know how delicious and filling the meal was going to be! I don't think he regretted making beef steak but I think he was a little sad he didn't get to eat as much of the cauliflower steak as I did! ;) He is now insisting we make the roasted red pepper sauce a regular addition to our meals, and stole ALL of the leftovers for his own lunch! So for those men who insist on being carnivores, there is hope out there!
I won't embarrass myself with my own pictures of the meal because it just won't do it justice! PLUS Ashley is an actual photographer and takes AMAZING pictures. She comes up with all of these amazing recipes herself and is even coming out with a cookbook for 101 Gluten Free {and some vegan} Doughnuts! Amazing! I found her through my sister who knows her because their husbands worked together. Now Ashley lives in Colorado but they still keep in touch!
Doesn't that look delicious!?
I also decided to finally bake an apple pie for Chris. I went with this one. I will do another blog post about my modifications because I had a few, and I want to remember so I can make it again! It was SO delicious! Any amazing food blogs you guys follow? Or recipes you go back to a lot?

Was I the only one that did this? I was pretty proud of myself I remembered!

Dinner Last Night

I finally tried my hand at Red Thai Curry! It is one of my favorite meals and my mom used to make it all the time! Of course convincing her to write down what she does is a chore in itself so I attempted my own version. I used this recipe for a base and then went off on my own! Here are my modifications:

  • 1 can unsweetened coconut milk
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons Thai red curry paste (will use (much) more next time!)
  • 1 tablespoon Asian fish sauce
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
  • 1 package chicken breasts from Costco, cut into 1 1/2-inch chunks
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 cans bamboo shoots
  • 3 large garlic cloves, very finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 sliced red peppers
  • Steamed rice, for serving
  • I made these changes mostly because I LOVE bamboo shoots and we just happened to have some leftover slices of red pepper. It turned out really nicely but I personally need a bit more spice in my life! We also felt like it needed salt to bring out the flavor. I would want to put some more veggies in there as well. If you have any suggestions for modifications or you have a great recipe please share it! There aren't really any appetizing pictures of curry so I will spare you this time, but I promise it it delicious!

This weekend Mr. Chris and I took advantage of "Dollar Days" at the National Aquarium. Well, I did. I got up around 8:30 and ran to the Aquarium to wait in line about an hour and half to get our tickets for ONE DOLLAR to go to the aquarium and 2 $5 tickets to the Polar Express 4-D Experience, so our whole adventure was less than half of a regular ticket! After I got out tickets I pickup up some Starbucks for the 2 of us and walked home to get ready. I most literally rolled out of bed to get the tickets!
After a bit of primping we headed back over to the aquarium and saw so many different kind of aquatic life! It made me want to go back to Hawaii so badly! We saw some being fed, and some had to work to get their food, they used their fins to squirt water and knock a cricket off a branch. It was pretty cool! It was a little crazy since so many other people wanted to take advantage of this deal but we had fun and then made our way to The Gallery to scope out some deals for Christmas! We ended up picking up a few things and then heading home to make some well deserved tacos!
Our Sunday was pretty quiet, we went to church where we were serenaded by steel drums! Then went home and made some waffles, and relaxed with Mr. Jack.

Make up {your mind}

So I've been going back and forth between some thoughts on the blog. I love beauty and fashion. Like a lot. Like when me and Mr. Chris were watching the VSFS I could name pretty much all the models and what campaigns and shows they have walked in or worked for. I've even been outright offered jobs at makeup stores! In all honesty one of my many dream jobs would be to be a stylist. I love helping people find clothes! being approached by a stranger and asked to help them is one of the ultimate compliments you can give me. But I still don't think I have enough knowledge to dispense on a regular basis. Since barely anyone reads this anyway what's the harm right?

Wednesday, December 5, 2012

Mr. Chris had Monday and Tuesday off because his faculty were on a retreat so he got a chance to do whatever he wanted! Like sleep in and...I don't really know what he likes to do when he's alone! The other students were busy studying for boards or went home. He did something to do with technology in our house, don't ask me what, I have no idea. Since he ran out of things to do I got to give him a grocery list! Ah! This never happens!
It's funny to send someone out to get things for you, I tried to be very specific but there were a few things he wasn't sure what they were, like polenta, leeks or a dough cutter. So instead of going to the store and picking things up and eating a hurried meal, I got to go home and go to the gym and then start dinner! Ah! It's the little things! I made this soup on this not-so-cold evening so we can have that for the next few days.
The reason going to the gym is so important right now is because since Chris and I did so much traveling and eating, and sitting and eating, that left very little room for gym time and I feel like I might have gained 50 pounds! I'm glad I went though because I met my instructor whose name is also Maris(s)a, went to UNCW, moved here in August 2011, is from Charlotte, and is dating a dental student! How crazy is that!? What are your gym routines? Is there a class you like to take or do you like to go solo?

For this party I wanted to 'take it easy'. For other Noelle Munoz Jewelry parties I have gone all out and made pretty much everything. I love to cook, but it really stresses me out to the point of the party not being very fun! :( I always like to go pretty heavy on the snacks! Just overload with choices! :) So I decided on an array of cheeses, dips, crackers, veggies and a signature drink. And of course everyone's favorite dip! Which was my attempt to make it easy, so I only had to make the dip, drink and oh yeah cookies! I decided to make some chocolate dipped butter cookies. An old favorite from when we lived in Northern Virginia. When it would snow I felt like we always made these and dipped them in chocolate, or left them plain and dipped them in our hot chocolate! I started off making the butter cookies the day before the party since they have to sit for around 4 hours! BUT! They are so easy to make it's worth it! They end up like those cookies you can just cut from a tube. Then I made some white chocolate with peppermint. I just threw a bag of white chocolate chips and 3/4 tablespoons of peppermint extract in a bowl and popped them in the microwave for a minute and then an extra 30 seconds after stirring. It was perfect for tossing my Oreo's in and then putting a little broken candy cane on top. Refrigerate and done! The next day I tried to dip my butter cookies in milk chocolate, the same way I did the white chocolate, and it burned! How do you bring back burned chocolate? Well you put it in a double broiler the way you're supposed to from the beginning constantly stirring and if that doesn't work add cream until it smooths out, and stir stir stir! Fixed! I think that's all I made unless you count my assembly of TBMs! ;)

After all the excitement of learning Chris made it to his first choice school I had to quickly turn around and focus on the 2 parties we were having at my house that week! Noelle came in around 12:30 a.m on Wednesday. Thankfully I had finished cleaning the house preparing for her arrival. We unpacked her car as fast as possible and hurried to bed!
Thursday was the day of the first party, mostly work and dental friends from Baltimore. We had fun eating, chatting and browsing. Noelle had some new things not on her website that we all fawned over. It was a nice low key evening for us.
Friday I opened our house up to our DC friends and we had such a blast! Most of them had never been to my house and it was so nice to have them come to me. More of the same, chatting eating, and lots of drinking! The girls enjoyed my signature drink while all the boys sipped on beers and talked boy talk in the kitchen. (More on the menu in a later post!) All in all the parties were a success and it was so fun to have an excuse to get friends together! Of course the worst part is I didn't take a SINGLE PICTURE! Luckily, Noelle took a couple before people got there. Check out her take on her blog!

And the winner is...

UNC! I'm so happy Chris got his first choice! He's worked so hard the past 3 and half years to get to where he is and I'm so proud of him. I'm a little sad we aren't moving to a cool city like NYC or Boston but I'm glad I'll be close to my nephew and the rest of my family! I'll just have to make the most of wherever we decide to live. I'm also SO SAD I have to leave my friends I've made up here! And my lifelong friends like Heather. This year and half has brought us so close! Just thinking about leaving her makes me all teary! AH! Can't talk about it!

Another big question: Who are we going to cheer for basketball games?! After all Mr. Chris went to Duke for undergrad and now UNC? What are we going to do!!!! We're kind of like a house divided! Also, does this mean I'll have to start calling him Dr. Chris? What do you guys think?

Now that the traveling is over and the applications have been sent, looked at, examined, and match lists sent out, the time has come. Match day is today. I'm kind of freaking out. Like, a lot. Where would you like to go? Our fate is in their hands...
Signed, sealed, almost delivered! AH!!!

Post Thanksgiving

I hope you all had a wonderful and filling Thanksgiving! Mine was full of family and friends for which I am forever grateful for. Chris and I might have had too much fun with Mr. Jack because we ended up dog-napping him! I mean how can you say no to this face!?
 He has been doing well and we love to take him on walks around our neighborhood! I am currently in the throws of planning for a Noelle Munoz Jewelry Party I am having on Thursday! I hope you all aren't going too crazy with Cyber Monday! But if you're looking to give a laugh this season I pity the fool who doesn't like this little pot!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I know we all have things we are Thankful for that we take for granted on a regular basis. I of all people probably need to be more mindful of the blessings in my life. I hope you all have a safe, happy, wonderful and filling Thanksgiving! Below is a very cute email from Anthro!

Back to DC

On Monday I got an unexpected package. Actually 8 very large packages. For my job I help approve submittals for projects and these just so happened to come to the wrong office. We needed them down to the DC ASAP so I got the lovely task of trucking them down to DC. I decided rather than fight traffic in the morning I decided to drive down that night and stay one more night at Heather's! The upside is I got a little more sleep and a lot more Dancing with the Stars! :)
So I trollied the 8 large and heavy glass samples into the DC office the next day and peace was restored! Do you guys watch DWTS? Who do you like!? I can't decide who I want to win! They are all so good!!

Stay tuned for our adventures to...

Whirlwind {3 of 3}

On Sunday Heather and I had to wake up early because we were running a race. Not any old race, THE COLOR RUN! Chris drove down to join us in the cluster that was National Harbor. It was a little crazy but we got there without pulling our hair out or killing anyone so that was a plus. Finally when we got to our heat we had a blast!
It's untimed so it's not really a race but it was nice to get out and finally do some running after all our travel.
We enjoyed throwing our colors and the dance party and everything! But it was a long weekend for all of us and we were all ready to go home and have some lunch. Chris and I ended up going to Panera in full Color Run messiness with all the church goers. But we were so hungry we didn't care! We went home, showered, napped, ate dinner and went to bed early, I had a long week ahead of me! Have any of you done the Color Run? Did you have a blast? Did you have a cool team name?

Whirlwind {2 of 3}

On Saturday we had a nice long sleep in and grabbed a little snack before one of the sweetest bridal showers I have ever been to! Everyone was so sweet and the house was just so full of love and joy for Meghan and Matt I came pretty close to tears a couple times!
After getting back to DC we had to turn around and get ready again because we went to a DC United Game! We had such a blast! We watched with Barra Brava and man, are those guys cray from some DC United! I'm not sure if there is a better way to describe it than...
Yes, those are beers, being thrown into the air. Let's just say we didn't wear our best out to this game! :) TENEMOS QUE GANAAAAARRRRR!!!!

Then we went out for a couple drinks and headed to bed for another crazy day...

Another Whirlwind {1 of 3}

I had one whole day with Mr. Chris and then he was off to Louisville for, you guessed it, another interview! While he was gone I packed my bag for a weekend in DC to celebrate the upcoming nuptials of my friend Meghan and Matt in the from of a bridal shower. I took the MARC down to DC after work on Friday to stay with my lady Heather. We decided to share a bridal present but the catch was we needed to go pick it up all the way out in Tyson's! Going to Virginia from DC!? On a Saturday!? Usually that would be blasphemous, but we made an exception due to the fact it had been probably more than a year since I had eaten at a Great American Restaurant and gotten a chocolate waffle! :) ALSO we were going to a housewarming party near Arlington so we were in the clear!

After picking up the bookshelf that almost didn't fit in Heather's Mini we shared a delicious meal at Coastal Flats and headed off the warm a house! By the end of the night it felt like I had lived four days within that one! Have you ever had a day like that?

Gone Girl

Whilst doing all this traveling I have somehow managed to work in a whole book into the mix! I have mentioned a few times here I was a Chi Omega in college. Now I am an active member of our Alumnae Association for the Greater Baltimore Area and currently lead the book club. This was our first book and I stressed probably too much about which book to choose. Should I choose one I've read and know is good? Should I choose the classic first book of To Kill A Mockingbird, written by a fellow Alumna? Should I choose one no one has read? UGH! So many questions! I finally decided on Gone Girl, one I hadn't read but wanted to and was apparently on a lot of ladies 'to read' list! Whew! We had our first gathering the other night  at Wit and Wisdom and I was pretty nervous!

What if no one showed? What if no one read it? What if they hated it?
Finally I had 2 takers! We discussed the book and we had a great time! This book is fantastic  I really loved it. However there were a few times it made me feel a little down on marriage, only because of the characters actions, and that I am a sensitive person in that regard. But otherwise it is wonderfully written and such a twisted plot that I think a lot of people would really enjoy it. Mr. Chris is even reading it! Have any of you read Gone Girl? What did you think??

New York {Day 2 & 3}

The next day we got a late start but were ready to meet some more friends in Chelsea. We started out by walking around theChelsea Market and finding a place to nosh. Everyone wanted to go to a diner but Chris and I were in the mood for something a bit lighter. So we went to LePain Quotidien to share a bread basket and a ham and gruyere sandwich.
By the time we were done our other friends were in Chelsea and we all walked over to the construction of the World Trade Centers and the Memorial. Unfortunately we didn't have the forethought to book tickets and didn't get to go and see it. By the time we were ready for the next site it was time for us to go home and get ready for the party! So we primped and changed and scuttled over to DinoBarbeque. It was so lovely! They decorated it so it was like we were back in North Carolina and they both looked great. Laura wore a beautiful white strapless dress with a sweetheart neck, a flowy bottom, just above knee length and a sparkly belt. There were wonderful toasts and delicious food. We had so much fun. And it was relaxing but Chris and I were still pretty tired so instead of going to the after party we went home to get some sleep.

Everyone else was leaving the next day so they packed and then we all went to brunch with the rest of the wedding party. After brunch we went to the Bronx Zoo! It was so nice! The weather was just perfect and we saw a ton of animals. Since it was Sunday it closed a little early and Chris and I went back to Harlem to get some sleep before his interview and my day of work. We ordered a pizza for the two of us and had a nice night in until...Chris realized he was supposed to be at his social! Whoops!
Monday we took the same train in opposite directions, me to Rockefeller Center and Chris to the Bronx. It was so cool to be in the NY office! Walking around our office was probably the most tourist-y thing that I did while I was there! It was so fun, and everyone was really sweet. Chris came to meet me so we could wade our way to the bus together! It started down poring as we were walking! But we made it without being totally drenched. Then home we went! It was so nice to sleep in our own bed, and wash our faces in a sink that was normal size and not fight 4 other people for it! All in all a great trip and I'm ready to go back! Have you guys ever been to NY? Do you live there? (jeal) Do you have a favorite memory of NY?

After only a few interruptions from an older couple next to us we woke up safe and sound in New York! We were dispatched right next to Madison Square Garden and Korea town. Of course neither of us was in the mood for Korean but completely famished. We quickly walked several blocks to find Havana NY and helped ourselves to a couple cubanos. We then walked around and acclimated ourselves to the NY Subway, our first stop was Central Park to hang out while we waited for the rest of our party to come in from Philly and Seattle. About 30 minutes before (we thought) they were due to come in Chris suggested we start walking. He said it was about a mile. Our place was in Harlem. DOES THIS LOOK LIKE A MILE TO YOU!?
In all we walked almost 10 miles! So by the time we got there I was exhausted to the brink of tears. We had already been walking since we got there and I was obviously exhausted. Apparently Chris thought I was going to cry because of where we were staying. Either way we finally made it and we waited for the rest of our friends to meet us. We had set plans for later that night to see Eric and Laura before their wedding celebration. Since we were all tired and one of us was on a three hour time difference we found a place to eat nearby. This place might have been the nicest place for Mexican food in Harlem, La Condesa. They were SO nice, not only the people that worked there but the patrons as well. We all ended up chatting and eating for around four hours! It was a blast, we shared some guacamole and calamari and I got an enchilada which I don't normally get but it was highly recommended and Chris and I shared what was basically a bananas foster and a Mexican hot chocolate. Then we finally rolled out a bit closer the the Upper West Side to the Five Lamps Tavern for drinks and to meet Laura and Eric's families. It was so nice to meet the people who helped form the two people we all love so much. The siblings are always the best to meet because they know everything about them. We headed back far too late and we all promptly passed out. But not after the fellas enjoyed there usual nosh of late night McDonalds. Oh boys!

Tuesday, October 16, 2012

So last I wrote I was returning from Phoenix only to come back to a packed week of: Season THREE of Downton Abbey with friends in Mount Vernon; Chris gone to interview at NOVA in Fort Lauderdale; and then packing for not only an interview at Montefiore but also a wedding in New York City! All this in 3 days! Ah! I can't believe we survived it! But I had the images of Downton in my brain to keep me calm! ;)
Downton Season Three is seriously amazeballs guys. I won't give anything away besides that it's amazing and if you haven't gotten on the bandwagon you need to. STAT! It picks back up in the US on January 6th.

Mr. Chris really liked visiting Florida, and one of his best friends, oh yeah and interviewing...
I had to pick him up literally at the crack of dawn on Friday. Just enough time for us to pack and get probably 3 hours of sleep before we BoltBus-ed up to New York! Thankfully I can sleep pretty much anywhere and promptly hit the snooze as soon as I found a spot. More about our trip to New York next!

Like a piece of toast

Whew! Back from Phoenix and my was that place dry! We were delayed getting there by a few hours but we made it to In-N-Out before promptly passing out!

The next day we went to Frank Lloyd Wrights winter home, Taliesin West. It was so cool! Like all his houses and buildings are, but it was particularly cool to see a place where he actually lived and worked and hear the stories about how he regularly altered the house and how he created a school there that corresponded with the original Taliesin studio. There are so many stories that come with architecture, the beginning, planning, planning, planning, executing, planning, altering, building, building, planning, altering and with Frank Lloyd Wright there is rarely a final final product. I think I'll write a little blog about FLW when I get back from my NEXT trip!

Follow along on twitter and instagram to see where we go next! Username for both is marisa_camille Have a great weekend!

Come sail away...

Ah! This week has been so crazy and it's just going to get more intense as the month goes on! My body finally gave in a caught the cold that has been going around my office(s). Of course the second I said I was feeling hoarse husband went to school to get his flu shot! But that didn't stop us from going out sailing with some office friends! We got all the way to Key Bridge and back to the Harbor. We got to see where Francis Scott Key wrote the poem which is now our National Anthem, which I think is pretty cool! It was the perfect weather to go out but being as I was still sick I got home and went straight to bed!

Thankfully I am feeling much better now just in time for a weekend trip! Where? You'll just have to follow the breadcrumbs on my instagram and twitter! Have a great weekend!

What day is it?

YAY! Love Mean Girls! AND #WhatShouldWeCallMe! Chris and I are going on a hopefully fun and rain free outing tonight, I hope you are all wearing your pink!

Monday, October 1, 2012

Oh hi there!

Oh my goodness the door has be shoved open and I am allowed back into my blog! I have no idea what happened but I guess blogger revamped itself so now I'm back! And not a moment too soon! We missed all of summer but it's cool because it wasn't anything too spectacular. But thankfully our Fall will be packing a punch! The one big thing that happened over the summer is I found out

Ah! We found out via Skype that we'll be welcoming my little nephew in 5 months! My dad had to be up here for work so we got the watch together. After celebrating, me, my dad, and Chris went to Woodberry Kitchen and stuffed ourselves silly. Enjoying the lovely farm to table fair and sharing a bottle of wine, we all went to bed with very full bellies. We took dad to the airport and said our goodbyes before Chris and I went on a baby extravaganza. Bye bye paycheck! Little boy clothes are just too adorable! Then we had our own wild weekend filled with friends, birthdays and a couple more late nights.
In other news Chris and I are going to be doing A LOT of traveling throughout October and November. He is applying to schools for Orthodontics and going to interviews all over the country and I'll be right next to him the whole time. We're pretty excited to visit all these cool places we've never been before and do some exploring! It's a very exciting time in our house! So be on the lookout for our clues and see where we go next!

Poor baby blog!

I'm still trying to figure out why I have limited access to you! If anyone knows why I cant see anything on the normal website that would be helpful! I haven't forgotten you! Also, I can't ask blogger questions either so I can't even ask them for help! Ah!

Service and Parties for St Patty's

The weekend after ‘Pi Day’ Chris and I went on an all day Habitat for Humanity Build. I know, what a way to spend St. Patrick’s day! But we hadn’t done it in a long time and thought it would be a good way to meet some new people. It was slightly embarrassing that we could just walk to the site from our house, but that’s Baltimore for you! We got there at 8 on the dot and started learning how to mortar! Husband and I filled and created an entire wall! It was really fun, since everyone is kind of doing the same thing you get to learn a lot about the people you work with. I learned that our pastor and his wife like Girl Talk and that most of the people work in Hopkins and people loooove to talk about Young Life. It was a fun day full of hard work and it was really nice to do some service for our city. Afterwards Chris and I sat on the deck and soaked up what little sun the day had left to give. I took a nap (oh man this is becoming a theme!) and woke up to news that Craig and Lauren were willing to give their Girl Talk tickets to us! AH! Unfortunately, I had not taken a shower, and had been asleep! Oh man! I really wanted to go but my body just wasn’t into it! Thankfully some of my work friends were more than happy to take them off their hands and enjoyed the concert! On Sunday I went down to DC to congratulate Heather on finishing her first Half Marathon!  You go girl!

Several of our other friends ran as well and one ran the full! Whew those girls are kickin’! To congratulate them we had a little cookout with lots of friends, food, pups and bocce! I dropped a bag of work clothes off at Heather’s so I would only have to tote a big bag one way on Tuesday for our sleepover!! AH! More on that one later! I hope you had a great weekend as well! xo, m

Let's take a trip!

AH! So blogger works on husbands computer! Let's see how long this works! I realized I didn’t do an update on our weekend in Easton! It was husbands Spring Break and we decided to take a mini vacay to the Easter Shore of Maryland. Luckily, it is only about an hour and a half drive away so we could go to church, have a nice lunch, and leisurely make our way to Easton. But of course we had to stop at the outlets first! What’s a vacation without some new duds huh?! We got Mister a whole new outfit plus a couple extras and I got a pretty green dress and white textured jacket. Chris thinks it’s so funny that I love a bargain. I mean who doesn’t!? (We got 40% extra off our purchase!) Then we made our way to the Tidewater Inn in Easton.
We found it, and it was SO cute! Chris was relieved since I had been pretty sparse on the details. We ate across the street at Banning’s Tavern for dinner, Mister had the Sheppard’s Pie and I had some good ole clam chowder. After a few after dinner drinks we were ready to climb into our luxurious king bed.
The next day we hopped on our bikes (provided) and pedaled our way to St. Michaels. Oh wait, no, no we didn’t. We pedaled all the way to Oxford. Lo and behold our brochures told us the ferry was open in March. Nope, that baby is closed till April! AH!

So we biked 10 miles just to turn around and drive our tired tushes to St. Michaels for a wine tasting. At least we got a really good work out! We were also expecting some scenic views but we were definitely biking down a highway! Oh well! The wine tasting was totally worth it though! We went to St. Michaels Winery and we got two free tastings and every additional was only $1! We ended up buying 4 bottles of wine, one for our good friend in Belgium. (Who I heard through the grapevine (ha!) was bringing us something back!) Then we walked around and went through every little shop that was open and then found some late lunch sushi.
We went back and had ourselves a little nap! That’s what a 20 mile bike ride, wine and food will do to a girl! We then went to grab some delicious BBQ from The BBQ Joint. I had the pulled pork (natch) and Mister had ribs. Both were so good! Not exactly like back home but a good contender!
The next day we walked around then packed up and headed home. All that eating out made me homesick and ready for some of my own food. I forgot! Our breakfast was included and we both had eggs Benedict, pancakes or an omelet both mornings! All in all it was a great break from the norm and so nice to get away with just the Mister! Happy Travels!

Coffee and Tea

It's no secret that I love coffee. I wouldn't call myself a coffee snob but some people seem to think that since I like coffee black I know all about it! Not true! I didn't know what 'bone dry' meant {all foam rather than milk} or what a macchiato was. {Until some obvi research} Macchiato literally means 'marked' so a latte macchiato would be mostly milk 'marked' with a shot of espresso and a regular macchiato is espresso 'marked' with a little milk, which is where you will see the fun designs like this:

The whole point of this post is that I've made a glorious discovery. But first the background: I love Fresh Market coffee, I wish there was a closer one than Towson but I'm grateful for that one either way! My favorite kind is Cinnamon Hazelnut. I've been drinking it for years! I went to restock this weekend when I went to Towson Mall and they didn't have any pre-ground! So I put a little in the grinder and searched for another kind. I found Caramel Macchiato. My life has changed. I love it! I had never even had a caramel macchiato before but I love this coffee. Plus! Since I am so lazy sometimes; I had some left over coffee and decided to try a little experiment. Since the one 'fancy' thing I order is a mocha I thought I would try to make my own. I poured a 1/2 cup of old {gross right?} coffee in a cup and stirred in hot chocolate mix and filled the rest with hot water. The result: husband running down the stairs demanding 'What is this magic!?' Mister usually doesn't like hot chocolate but he loooooves this! {He also used to not like coffee either!} I thought I would share this treat with all you coffee and mocha lovers since it stirred quite the excitment in our house. Happy Hump day friends! Stay awake!

p.s. here is a little diagram to help you to know what's what...cred

Glass Blowing

This weekend I spent some quality time with my fellow dental student girlfriends. I started off by going to Towson Mall with an old pro and picking up some much needed make-up refills! Then we met up with the rest of our crew ate some lunch and headed out to McFadden Art Glass. At first I thought this was kind of a dorky outing but figured it would be fun to try something new. {I guess I forgot I had been to Venice and seen all the shops where they make the most amazing glass pieces.} So we decided what we wanted to make: 2 icicle ornaments, a necklace and a shot glass. I volunteered to go first and it was so fun! I decided on turquoise and red as my colors for my icicle and we got started! I had to heat up the glass and man was it hot! Turn, turn, turn so the malleable glass doesn't fall off the punty {the pole} then we flattened it out on the bench, {marver?} turn, turn, turn, into the furnace, {glory hole!} a little more flattening and pulling with flat head tweezers and turning to make it spiral. Our glassmith sniped the end off and helped me smooth the end out with a blow torch to make a loop and then we placed it in some insulation for it to cool. It was so fun! I then watched the other girls make their pieces and I even got to blow some glass for the shot glass! While we waited for the glass to cool we walked around the shop, they have pieces everywhere! In the bathroom......and in the ceiling! It was pretty cool and really fun! I definitely recommend going. It is such a craft and so fun to watch the pros do it! Check out McFadden Art Glass if you're ever in Baltimore, they have a beautiful and fun collection of glass pieces for sale and even a couple lamps a la Chihuly. I hope you had a creative weekend!
