So originally we had found reasonable tickets flying out of Dulles, Tuesday the 12th, at 6 a.m. with several long layovers and getting into Lihui late Tuesday night. We would then fly back out of Lihui 2 weeks later and fly into National…does this make practical sense? Not really. This is how I found out my {future} husband can charm the pants off anyone and if he really wants something, no one can so no to the golden hair, crystal blue eyes, Ken Doll physic and of course that southern charm!
Chris managed to get our tickets changed to a day earlier, Monday the 11th, at 10 a.m. flying out of BWI, fewer and shorter layovers and flying back into BWI as well. All of this and no extra cost, oh yes, and did I mention that they let him do that for all 5 other people flying with us? My husband is magical. He also got us into the captain’s lounge and an extremely discounted car rental as well. So glad I married into this luck!
We got to BWI around 8, I am such a nervous security person, not flyer, I’m fine with flying, it's lateness that gets my nerves rushing. I am super afraid I will somehow miss my flight that I paid my hard earned money for. Chris and I entertained ourselves with games and such while we waited and chatted with the couple that was flying with us. (the 3 other guys decided they wanted to catch a later flight) Everything went smoothly to Dallas, to LA where we lounged and tried to spot celebrities. We finally made it to Lihui after almost 24 hours of traveling where I was reunited with one of my best friends and bridesmaid Dennae.
She opted to come a day early from Montana and stay with all of us at Chris’ parent’s house. We stayed up until it was about 6 a.m. east coast time talking and catching up. The next day we made it to Costco so everyone could get their snorkel gear and sunscreen! Chris and I, especially Chris, love to snorkel! So we had to make sure everyone had their gear! We spent the rest of the day sunning, teaching everyone how to snorkel in Poipu beach, and waiting for the rest of our party to arrive!
My family arrived around 4 p.m. and walked right onto the beach, it was so great to see them after being away for almost 2 weeks! They were totally blitzed! They had stopped for happy hour on the way to the beach and were on their way to Costco to stock their house. While they ran errands we rounded everyone for dinner and drinks at my parents house for a mini pool party! We gathered and told stories and had some merriment while we waited for our dinners to finish. I have to say it’s so nice to be surrounded by people you love and love you in return. I loved hearing stories of Chris and how much people admire him and what a hard worker he is. That is definitely one of the things that made me fall in love with him, his hard work, dedication, pursuit of knowledge, love of other people and his genuine sweetness. Ah, so glad I chose this man as my mate in life and he chose me! Finally, the rest of my bridesmaids and reader Camille came in around 10p.m. and went straight to bed, well, after I gave them a couple presents! I got each of them a monogrammed beach bag and a large beach towel with their name on it. These items definitely came in handy! I got one of each for myself as well! The next day would be filled with lots of activities and pulling things together before the big day!

My 10 days in Baltimore…

As I was without a phone I had to make do with just Chris, facebook and gchat as my forms of communication. While we were in Baltimore we went shopping, went to Annapolis and hung out on Ryan’s boat, ate a lot, slept A LOT and went to DC one more time. Luckily we have a couple excuses to go into DC, one being my best friend from Lake Braddock who just moved from Shirlington all the way to the Hill! :) We went to a Justin’s CafĂ© near Nationals Stadium and had some beer and pizza and met Heather and some of her friends from Virginia Tech. Then we ventured to North West DC to ACKC for some desserts with Jess and to retrieve my phone! They have an awesome dessert case AND ‘Diva’ milkshakes named for some of the all time great divas! I had the Joan Crawford (or Collins) and Chris tried the Liz Taylor. Both were delish! A little on the large side for my taste, I can’t handle too much dessert sometimes! But we sat there long enough that I finished with Chris’s and Jess’s help of course! Then we made it back through the torrential downpour back to Maryland.
Over the next few days we did lots of laundry and excitedly packed for our 15 day trip to Hawaii and our upcoming wedding!
This is a picture of us before we went to Chaps Pit Beef, as you can see from the previous post. I made Chris change because we CAN NOT be one of THOSE couples! Lawls! And yes, we did live in sin for about 10 days before our wedding but I think after 6 years of being apart we will be forgiven! :)
Until Hawaii!

Goodbye Charlotte, Hello Baltimore!

My packing extravaganza was already in full swing but I still had a long way to go on my last day of work. We quickly realized the only time I could move would be over July 4th weekend! This is most unfortunate because July 4th is Noelle’s birthday and the 5th is my mom’s birthday! So we somehow convinced Noelle and Jeremy to help me move my stuff up to Baltimore over her birthday weekend! Saturday morning was the worst. I had only had a few hours of sleep trying to pack everything in my U-Haul and I had to leave my family behind!

Dad was the first to break, he was packing some linens for me and I could hear him sniffling in the other room. I kind of want to cry right now thinking about it! Then it was mom then Noelle and Jeremy. The whole family was one big sobfest! Whew! We left on schedule and maybe Noelle and I cried a couple times in the car on our way up there but otherwise we made it safe and sound and at a good time! We unloaded everything into my storage space and all went back to Chris’ apartment and took naps! That night we surprised Noelle’s with her best friend from college, Nikki and her fiancĂ© Borzou at Canton Dockside for Baltimore crabs! We had so much fun and stuffed ourselves to the brim! The next day Chris wanted to take us to a Baltimore landmark for lunch, Chap’s Pit Beef. To me that sounds disgusting, that, along with the fact that you have to drive through a sketchy area paired with the fact that it is basically in the parking lot of a strip club made me not just a little uneasy about my future dining experience. This place has been featured on ‘Diners Drive-ins and Dives’ and, according to the lady at the window about 9 other shows or magazines. All of us got beef sandwiches with horseradish sauce and fries. It was delicious. Honestly, it’s like 10a.m. and my mouth is watering just thinking about it! :)
After lunch Noelle wanted to just shop shop shop. Since it was her birthday the next day and I still hadn’t gotten her anything I accompanied her and bought mostly whatever she wanted. Along with a new pair of shoes for myself, which happen to be the same ones she had as well! :) That night we went out for pizza with our friend Ryan, our local foodie. We were up for anything after a long day of shopping, and pizza sounded great. Noelle and I are notorious for hating Chicago style pizza and of course Ryan told us half way there that it was only Chicago style. Well, we have since recanted our past thoughts. Matthew’s Pizza was delicious! We took home a ton of leftovers but we stuffed ourselves before doing so! It wasn’t soupy; the crust was crispy as well as being deep and filled with fresh ingredients and a gelato case to boot! We went out to a bar in Fells Point later and blew bubbles on the pier for Noelle’s birthday at midnight. The next day Noelle and Jeremy had to leave early in the morning so they could be home in time for fireworks. When they left Noelle refused to cry and made me do likewise. They made it home in time for her fireworks and left Chris and I to our own devices. With that we decided to venture to our Nation’s Capitol for our countries birth. We went to one of Chris’ classmates from Duke, Jess’s house and ate an incredible dinner prepared entirely by one of her roommates and got to see the fireworks from a sound free distance! :) We spent the night there and then ventured into my old stomping grounds of Northern Virginia for Tyson’s Corner mall and delicious Lebanese food! Then back to Baltimore we went, unfortunately when I tried to call my mom for her birthday I realized we had left my cell phone at Jess’s house. The story continues…
Cheers for now!

June Bug

June was mostly a blur of trying to find a place to live, trying to find a job and trying to nail down wedding vows, flowers, music and many many other things! I went up to Baltimore the weekend after my Bachelorette jamboree to look for places to live with Chris. I got there on Thursday night and we searched for places o
n Friday afternoon. The first 2 places were awful! One was on the second story of a row house and was so tiny and smelled like smoke and in a terrible area. The other was not finished and looked like it would not be even close to finished by the time we would need to move in. The third Chris had sent me pictures of and I was excited to see it! I was afraid we wouldn’t be able to get it because that is what happened to several places we had our eye on. We saw it and I loved it! We discussed it later and signed the lease the next day. On Saturday we went to a rising Juniors formal for the Dental school with some of our friends at the Orioles Sports Legends Museum. We had a blast! We had full access to the museum and lots of free food and drinks! We spent a lot of time with our friends Chris and Shelley and they ended up coming over and playing games with us later that night and the next day as well!

It was overall a great and successful trip to Baltimore and it made me more excited now that we had a place to live. Now if only I could get a job to pay for that place of residency! A few weeks later I was asked to join not only the Baltimore office but the DC office as well! WHAT A RELIEF! I was so excited that I could stay with this awesome firm and I wouldn’t have to pedal my resume around town not knowing when I would get paid!

My last day was July first and I had a little going away party/wedding party given by my office. It was so sweet and I miss them so much! There is nothing like good old southern hospitality! It was hard to leave but I was starting a whole new life…

Cheers Until July…
