Saturday/Sunday Sistertime

On Saturday Noelle and I went on a serious shopping trip to Arundel Mills. Even though we went shopping for a serious 5-ish hours we came back with only a few items to our names but that's probably for the best. That night we went out to dinner with some friends to L.P. Steamers and treated ourselves to some delicious Maryland crabs and of course Natty Boh!
Sunday we took it easy before Noelle had to leave around 2 or 3. After that it was time to scrub my place back down to normal. I have to say it was well deserved extra hour of sleep that night. So off putting to wake up in the light. Until next time friends!

The Aftermath...

Just kidding! It was easy clean-up since Noelle and I sat with some of the girls and chatted while Chris took care of the heavy lifting in the kitchen. {How lucky am I!?} We finished the rest later and called it a night! The next day all the girls wore the goods they had bought. Noelle had to come into the office toting what she had left since everyone who couldn't make it the night before wanted to join in the fun! She came and we immediately went out to lunch at the Gypsy Queen food truck. Unfortch they ran out of crab when we got there so we had to go for our second choices. I went with a falafel cone and Noelle had the fish taco. SO GOOD!
When we got back to the office we let the shopping begin, well Noelle did, I had to work. She found a few more customers and a couple return customers before heading out to the shops at Harbor East. We spent the night relaxing, watching Dexter, {our new obsession!} and eating leftovers. Perfect beginning to an awesome weekend with the sister.

NMJ Trunk Show!

So after all that everything ended up being okay. {read: it was awesome, I just still hadn't come down from my stress from before} It was a little slow at first, thankfully we didn't have anyone show up until 6:30 and then people started pouring in! I didn't know my little house could hold that many people! If we were to do it again we could probably jam 5 more people in and if were warm probably 20 more with the backyard and the rooftop deck. {ramble much about nothing!?} Noelle was so great, she had her stuff pretty much all set up when I got home. She brought some trays and bowls to display her jewels in. And some black sand which really made the silver really pop and sparkle. She also brought some of her turquoise covered books which I think make her look so legit...

Altogether it was a huge success! Everyone loved her jewelry and her, of course. I was so happy that everyone had fun and liked everything {food included!}. It was so nice, Noelle just socialized and people asked her questions about her jewelry, about her, and how she makes it. Many of the ladies knew exactly what they wanted already and seemed pretty giddy to see it all in person and snatch it up! It was all very relaxed, we didn't have people sit down and force them to buy or even look at her stuff, it was more of a cocktail party with jewelry there for your perusal. We didn't want it to be a Tupperware-like party where you feel like you have to leave with something in your hands. I hate those parties where the endorser says if you buy this much whatever they're selling your hostess will get an expensive whatever they are shilling out. I'm like why should I buy something so this person gets something? So it was awesome and I would do it again because it was fun, and relaxed and lovely to spend time with friends from all aspects of my life and meet some new people too!

We still have girls asking for stuff for Holiday presents and (still!) gushing over Noelle's hair. It was so nice to spend that time with my sister, I'm so proud of all her work! I pretty much am always wearing at least 2 or 3 of her pieces on any given day. And I hope you will check out her site and if you see something you love then you should definitely put it on your holiday list! I hope you like her stuff as much as I do!

Pre Party

My plan for the menu was this: potato rings, artichoke dip, bread sticks, ham and asparagus roll ups, chocolate covered strawberries, and I had planned on having caprese toothpicks, calamari, raspberries, and s'mores but they never made it out. For drinks we had sparkling amaretto sours, Hornsby, and wine, red and white. I wish I had taken pictures of all of this but there was just no time! I was scrambling at the end, even while the guests were there. Here is the rundown of what I did and how I tweaked or messed up these recipes!
Potato Rings:
It took me three days to make these since you need to refrigerate and freeze these for an extended period of time. {I just whipped up the ranch from a Hidden Valley packet instead of doing the homemade version} Everything went smoothly on the first day (Directions 1-7). Where things literally and figuratively fell apart was steps 8-11. I kept my pan in the fridge for probably 24 hours and when I went to cut my rings out they totally fell apart. :( I tried to reconstruct them but they still fell apart especially when I dipped them in the dry and wet mixtures. Since that was already a very messy task I got super frustrated and ended up making them into little mounds about the size of a smushed golf ball. I froze those for another 24-ish hours.
Honestly, I probably should have made the mixture on a smaller pan for a thicker outcome and Jenny (one of the site's genius editors) suggested I put less cream in for a more solid mixture. {You can see our interaction in the comments below, she was very sweet and helpful! :)}
The day of the party I decided to make these first since I didn't want 'fried smell' in the house when the guests came. I tried my first one {after it cooled, duh} and wasn't super impressed, which at that point I was like "just throw them away!" {I turned into a bit of stress ball at this point} But I decided I put that much work into them I'll just put them out and if no one likes them well, there goes that.
Artichoke Dip:
This was super easy; I roasted the garlic while I was frying the potato balls. And everything else was super easy! I used cream cheese instead of marscapone since I live in a food desert. It was so good we made it the next night for a snacky dinner with the leftovers from the party. And we already had some Stacey's Pita Chips so we used those. (Even though I forgot to put them out until half way through the party so people used the bread sticks instead! :))
Bread sticks:
These guys turned out not how I planned not as cheesy since the Gruyere I got was seriously mild. But good for when your host forgets to put out pita chips!
Ham and Asparagus Roll-ups:
These are of course really easy as well. I wanted to use rosemary ham that you can get at the Costco's in Charlotte but not Baltimore! :( So I used regular ham from Costco and sliced it to fit in the roll up. We put cheese in them the next day for dinner but I don't think you really need it, they already taste like they have cheese in them.
Chocolate Covered Strawberries:
There are a million ways to do chocolate covered fruit but I did 2 cups semi-sweet morsels and 1 cup of heated heavy whipping cream. I heated the cream in the microwave for a minute or 2 and poured it on the chips and stirred. That's it! I dipped my cleaned and dried strawberries in the mixture and them dipped them in bright blue sprinkles or pearly sprinkles at the tips. Then placed them on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper and put them in the fridge overnight. That's it!
I didn't have time to make or put out the rest, I wish I had just gone ahead and made the caperese sticks beforehand but I didn't think other things would take so long. But of course we had to make our classic Sparkling Amaretto Sours!
We make these by the bottle, our recipe is a little different:
1 bottle Prosecco or Asti (we use Martini & Rossi)
4 tablespoons of simple syrup (made beforehand, lasts forever!)
1/2 cup of Amaretto (we used Disaronno)
2 squeezed lemons
And of course you have to make the sugar rims before but are sooo good! Just a colorful mix of lemon and lime zest and sugar. So easy and delicious!
What are your go-to's for dinner parties? Would you try any of these recipes? Did you come to my party and like or dislike any of these things? Let me know! I love feedback and new ideas!

Sorry I was MIA for so long I was prepping for my first party at our house! The whole week before the party I was prepping food, drinks, cleaning and reorganizing our house. Literally, I have nothing written in my agenda that week because I was so busy.
I was also prepping for our office party in Baltimore. Whew! I don't know how bloggers do this! Aside from Noelle coming to stay with us we had a last minute guest the night before she came! Our friend Anup was moving from Cincinnati back to Charlotte and we were one of his stops. It was a little crazy so we went back to Chap's Pit Beef since he wanted to go somewhere that was on The Wire. It was delish! But I couldn't enjoy for too long since I only had a day before Noelle came and the party! More on that later...

And we're having a party at my house tomorrow that will be kind of like a trunk show but more of a cocktail. I'm so excited! And hopefully I'll be back to normal next week!

Kate Spade

Kate Spade by marisa1114 featuring kate spade handbags
I thought I had already done one of these on Kate Spade! Mostly because I'm completely obsessed! I love her new line, everything is sweet, fun, and whimsical. I love everything! And it looks like I also have an obsession with mixing red and pink and teal. Sorry for the lack of postings, work has been pretty insane lately and next week I'll be commuting to 3 different states! Gah! Hope you have a great weekend!

Currently Obsessing Over...

My trip to Kentucky! I'm soooo excited to go back to Kentucky to see one of my best friends and bridesmaids Hannah! This time I'm not the only one going - Heather is flying down with me and Shemeh is coming from Charleston! Unfortunately none of the Charlotte girls, Noelle or Camille could make it this trip! :(

This is just an idea of what I am wearing this weekend, obviously I do not have the funds to support this wardrobe! {One can dream!}

I LOVE Kentucky! What girl doesn't love bourbon and horses!? We have an awesome weekend planned with bourbon tours, Keeneland, and even a horse tour! I do hope we make it to eat delicous doughnuts across the street from the Jif and Smuckers factories and the we might make it to 3rd Street Stuff. I'm so excited I'm ready to plan another trip back! I hope you have a great weekend!

Bra Blog

Bra Blog by marisa1114 featuring underwire bras
I have a problem. Ladies of Baltimore! Where are your bras?! I swear I have seen so many women walking around unsupported. Not cute! Bra shopping is actually one of my favorite things, it doesn't even have to be for myself. If you need a bra I am your gal. In Charlotte my favorite place to go was Dillards at South Park. I loved it because they had great, very helpful staff and wonderful selection and the dressing room! I loved their dressing rooms! Very roomy, a seat to either put your purse or your shopping companion on and hooks for what you want to buy, maybe's, and no's. {ANYWAYS} I think you feel better about yourself if you wear good, supportive, and pretty undergarments. I took my sister get a better bra after we were shopping and I noticed that her clothes weren't fitting as they should and took her by the hand to Dillards. She said she felt and looked so much better after finding a bra that fit nicely. I think women should start at a nice department store to be fitted and find some bras they like and buy one or two there and then if you're on a budget {like moi} go elsewhere to find others you like. Please ladies of Baltimore, it's Breast Cancer Awareness month, do yourselves a favor and give your ladies a treat! If you're an online shopper I really like to go here, here and here. My favs are Chantelle, Calvin Klein, Natori, and Hanky Panky. Good luck ladies!

{Update I found this most interesting please check it out!}

Free Fall Baltimore

I forgot to mention at the beginning of the month the many free things going on in Baltimore this month! There is a website dedicated to all things free this month here. Baltimore Beer week is still going on check out events here. I plan on doing some of these things while I'm here but I'm spending a lot of time in DC this month, hence the lack of posts! :( I hope you take advantage of these free fun events around our fair town, even if I can't!

Last weekend update!

Not this past one, the one before that...shew I'm behind! It was a couple of my girlfriends birthdays so we all went out to Mex at Power Plant Live! We took the boys along and I have to say I was sorely disappointed by the excitement level of my birthday gals! So I knew it was my job to amp up the fun! I started with their {many, many} drinks then got the dance party started...after all what girl doesn't like to boogie?! Well the boys weren't having it. But after a bit of convincing we got everyone out there!Whew! I eventually got those girls to get a little cray cray! Are you the party starter or the party pooper? I always want to be the starter! I may not always be able to stay up late but I never want to be the pooper! The second pic is not a picture of anyone we know FYI...
On Sunday we went to Fell's Point Fun Festival with some of our friends. It was nice but since the weather wasn't great we didn't want to walk around as much as we would have if it had been nice outside! We did walk all around but didn't really slow down to check everything out since it was cold and misty. We went to Riptide by the Bay to grab some drinks and oysters. Then skittered home on the Circulator.

I have to say never driving is pretty nice sometimes, I haven't driven since we moved! Mister drives me everywhere. I liked my time on the Circulator, it's free, it's emission free and comes around on the reg. Highly recommend for getting around the city!

French Connection

French Connection

I love French Connection. The love affair started with a plain cowl neck sweater from my lover Marshalls in Cotswold. It expanded when I decided to brave the giant Belk at South Park mall and found the girly and funky silhouettes and luxurious fabrics that makes French Connection. I had never really liked French Connection before because I always saw the not so nice girls at school wear their FCUK shirts. Which screams something that I don't want people to hear from me. BUT FC is great for petites because {shocker} they have European cut clothes. I love their sweet little details that range from fun prints to detailing on the arms or down the body. Makes me want to go shopping! Happy weekend!

Woodberry Kitchen

Last Tuesday Chris and I went out to eat thanks to one of Chris' good friends from Duke, who gave us a generous gift to Woodberry Kitchen. We decided to go last minute and of course I forgot to bring a camera so we'll have to rely on the words. It was a balmy night out and luckily they were still serving outside because even on a Tuesday night it was packed to the brim! There were no places to dine even at the bar so we ate in peace outside. We started with drinks I had a Whiskey Smash and husband had a Kentucky Lemonade. We should have switched because mine nearly had me on the floor! But that didn't stop me from enjoying the freshly made breads and our soft-shell crab sandwich. Everything at WK is locally grown, organic, and sustainable. Our 'suppers' were the pastrami flat bread {mine} and Chicken and Biscuits {Mister}. His was to DIE for! So delicious! There is nothing like a locally grown organically fed chicken, it was juicy, savory, undeniably glorious. I would love to go back but our bill + tip was more than $100. If we ever decided to go back we would probably get one of their 'snacks' and a coffee or cocoa. And I would go back because our server was so sweet and helpful and the atmosphere was something I wish I could bottle. Please let me know if you ever go there and what you think!

Pigtown Festival

I totally forgot to post about Pigtown Festival! Maybe because it was a huge let down! :( It looked like it would be huge but really it was quite small and very cold that day. There weren't very many vendors, and the quality wasn't great either. It probably would have been more fun if there were more people, vendors and better weather! It seemed to be pretty unorganized this year, there was very little advertising for it. I only knew about it because it was in the paper and I happend to see a single sign for it on my walk home. The best part was seeing the little pigs and weiner dogs race! And taking these pictures...

We went to Fells Point Festival this weekend, more on that later...

I keep forgetting to give an update on the house! Well we didn't have our first house guest like we thought. {LAME!} I would put up pictures of our guest room but it remains unfinished. :( Plus there is currently a queen sized mattress and box spring residing in there. OH wait drama ensues...When we moved in husband and I struggled to get our old queen and box spring up our very narrow {>2ft} staircase. After succeeding in this goal husband chooses to tell me our landlord said it was impossible to get a queen up the stairs! 1. I'm all like WTF?! 2. I'm like hells yeah! 3. lists. Well we got a new mattress from Charlotte. {Yes we hauled a queen bed from the Queen City so we didn't have to spend upwards of $1,000} Mister wanted to haul that baby up to the third floor from the outside and take it down to the second floor. That sounded like a terrible idea. TERRIBLE. 1. I was afraid someone would come flying off the roof. 2. It was raining. 3. This sounds like a stupid idea. 4. I know you're an engineer but you're dumb. 5. I'm right. Well he trumped me by not flying off the roof and got it up with a little help from a friend aka: anyone stronger than me. And now it remains in the guest room instead of underneath me night after night. Why you may ask? MARISA TELL US WHY! Oh because they don't fit DOWN the stairs either! Now I am subjected to sleeping in what is basically a fabric soup bowl. Despite this entire blog entry I really don't care, I can sleep on anything but I'm so ready to get that bed out of the guest room and into mine! Hopefully I'll remember to give updates as they come!

Meet me at the Mint

Over my weekend in Charlotte Noelle and I decided we should go ahead and check out the Chanel exhibit at the Mint Museum on Randolph Road. I had seen advertisements for it and gotten the weekly emails. We both really wanted to see it because I love fashion and fashion history and thought it would be so cool to see those pieces in real life. We went, we paid, we were sorely disappointed! Boo! There were only around 15 pieces in the exhibit and they were so plain Jane! Not the Coco I was expecting. I had expected the classics, and what she stood for: the petite shape, the menswear style, jersey dresses, quilted bags, and a chain lined jacket. I got very little or none of that! They had accessories from only a couple years ago in a case. You could see a better exhibit at Nieman Marcus. The descriptions were off as well. Chanel's system of naming items is very specific. Down to the month and year it was created and they had everything "circa 2005-2007". I guess I was expecting more pizazz for such a well known designer. More Lagerfeld and more history in the descriptions. I got more info from the kids book in the store than from the exhibit. {which was actually pretty inappropriate}
While the Chanel exhibit was a downer the Fashionable Silhouettes exhibit was more up my alley. They had two rooms filled with clothes through the ages. They had better descriptions but they were still lacking in history. Like Noelle said, once you've perused through every Smithsonian, MOMA, The Met, and the Uffizi your expectations are pretty high. It was worth it to see the other exhibits I would recommend checking out the Mint Museum in both the Randolph location and the new Uptown location. And if you buy admission {$10} to one museum you get re-admission to that museum and the other mint museum for the next two days for FREE! As well as Tuesday after 5 p.m. Just don't get your hopes up for Chanel ;).
p.s. and bring an umbrella...

Snowball {my vehicle} and I are officially Maryland residents! Snowball finally has her MD tags and I had to give away my NC licence. It was actually really easy once we had all the paperwork we needed: Title transfer, Bill of Sales, Safety inspection, Insurance, Bills with our names on them, Drivers Licence and check book! That would all be well and good but you have to get your Title Notarized, as well as the Bill of Sales {usually}, Safety inspections can take a lot of time and money {sometimes}, you need to research what kind of insurance you want to have, and you have to get bills in your name. Whew! Luckily I have a fantastic husband and ever patient mother who will do most of those things for me, {husband} and continue to pay insurance for our car while we try to figure all this out {mom}! We got there first thing and it was very easy, we had everything filled out already so they handed us over our new plates and that was it! So we went over to get my drivers license and luckily, I had brought everything you need: Old Drivers Licence, 2 proofs of residency, Birth Certificate, and Social Security Card. Very easy and people were actually nice! All of this makes me feel very grown up, but I did need husband to hold my hand for a lot of it sooooooo baby steps! Good luck to anyone needing to get this done!

My name is Marisa and I am a shopaholic. Okay that's more of an exaggeration than anything but I love to think about clothes, what I want to buy, {list making in excess} look at clothes, I love the feeling of trying items on and the accomplishment of finding something that fits like it was made for you. {Pause for the mopping up of salivation that has puddled onto my desk} I even shop during lunch. Enter the Inner Harbour Shopping Experience. I work right in the Inner Harbour, which houses several shopping venues. This lunch break I went into Forever 21 {shudder}. Ahh the senses are overwhelmed with merchandise. And during that glorious lunch break mid-week the place is not only organized {!?} but completely void of those of which the store is actually targeted {super annoying with a hint of slutty (possibly pre)teens}. As much as I hate to admit it, I love to supplement my grown-up wardrobe with $6 jeans and $2 jewelry. Which is exactly what I got this time. I know there are others out there that are guilty of this too! Why do you go to Forever 21? What are your shopping guilty pleasures? Let me know!

Queen City Photo Shoot

My limited time in Baltimore was consumed by work, laundry and packing. I went to Charlotte this weekend for a photo shoot for Noelle Munoz Jewelry. Pretty much my entire Saturday was dedicated to this shoot. I got to sleep in, then got ready and went to the shoot. We had our {Me, Noelle, Joanna} hair and make up done by Lisa and our photos were taken by the hilarious and amaaazing Cassandra and Steven from BlueSky Studios. We were all pretty worried about the gray skies from earlier in the day but it brightened up as we got ready to shoot. It was so relaxing and fun it didn't feel like we were 'working'. Noelle brought all of her best and brightest pieces to show off and we had a ball taking pictures all around Elizabeth Ave. If you ever need to have pictures taken I highly suggest BlueSky, they were so much fun, so cooperative, they understood Noelle's vision and were so flexible. I felt like they really truly cared about what we were doing and what we wanted to accomplish. I can't wait to see the pictures when they are finished! But for now here are some sneak peaks and you can read more here.Cheers!
*All pictures are taken by BlueSky Studios {FB Page} and Noelle Munoz

Aaaaaaand we're back!

It was a crazy week! With 3 days in DC, almost 2 days in Baltimore and almost 2 in Charlotte I’ve been pretty exhausted! Luckily I got to stay with my wonderful friend Heather {HAPPY BIRTHDAY!} in Eastern Market while in DC. We went out to Good Stuff Eatery, and Seventh Hill Pizza. Both were glorious! We got to eat outside at Seventh Hill drain a couple raspberry summer beers and enjoy the dough being thrown in the air. Freshly made in a stone oven the pizzas are slices of heaven and the atmosphere is to die for. I love outdoor seating and there is enough foot traffic to enjoy people {and dog} watching the night through. Very casual, excellent beer and wine choices and the Nutella Calzone are big enough to split 3 ways!
Good Stuff Eatery revolves around the burger. I had been craving umami and that could only be fulfilled with a good old fashioned burger. I could compare it mostly to Five Guys, hand made-to-order everything, burgers, fries and shakes. Who doesn’t love a little extra on their fries? Rosemary and thyme are my jam! I loved that they had a small size of fries; unlike Five Guys you can actually finish your own. So good, not too terribly expensive and super casual, as any burger place should be.

I’ll be back for more updates! Cheers!
